Why didn't they just steal the whole thing ?

Using a reciprocating saw is a bit harsh, too . . . I'm not sure how those parts would be re-used . . . ?

no chance that was done there.  That's probably the carcas of a stolen stripped shell, bet the ID's gone.  The one stuck in the water is probably half way to Africa in a shipping container by now...

simple switch, no one's going to think anything of a car being recovered on a flat bed are they.....
