Erm, yeah, but you can get cheap rebuild bits surely?

For what the car has cost so far...

I know Summit sell 350 Chevy (yes I know, different engine) rebuild kits which include new pistons.  You can add rods and a crank for not that much more.

Even if it cost another grand to get it running ok you'd still have something worth loads more on your hands...

summit kits are DIRT cheap... sounds like a plan.. you'll need an engine stand too if you're gonna lift the motor out.. but apart from that you should be ok.. unless it needs a rebore..

either way, its still dirt cheap.... but.. I call dibbs if it goes up for sale

For £200 I think you'd be daft NOT to have a go at restoring her . . . You've not got much to lose.

Well he did want to drop a turbo on it, if we can get it running i want to use it to run SRS next year. Of course a call will be made to my mate andy mitchell king of pontiac engines and see what he can do he just did a junkyard jewel pontiac 400 motor for hot rod magazine and made well over 400hp on a very limited budget

if you need a hand building the engine or mapping the EFI (presumably EFI right?) or generally making it go quicker I can lend my services... might as well put this degree to work somehow...

Must be worth pulling the top end off, see if you can see what is wrong, and if it's easy(cheap) to repair?

Nice idea but on a sloping drive outside in winter it just ain't gona happen

As I said at the start of Project Trans Am , it was a four stage project :

1 / Does the engine run OK ?

2 / Does the gearbox work OK ?

3 / Does it pass an MOT ?

4 / Rolling restoration.

I'm not making any money on the sale, but she's is hopefully going to someone with a large barn to put her in and the tools/equipment and time to get her back on the road.

Just need a few more MKB people to sign up and get their cars doing what they were built for.

I  am hoping to have the stang back in a road legal condition (although not finished) by summer next year. However, at 20 I somehow think I have no chance of being insured on a 6.4 litre engine, no matter what cunning plans I can come up with

I had a 383 Charger when I was 19.....OK so it was quite a while ago now (No Puns Please) but as long as you go limited mileage insurance its not too bad.

Oh right. Sounding better. TBH I thought I'd wait until it was on the road before ringing round for quotes. At the moment it is insured for 199 quid 1500 mile limited for my parents as it needed to be insured and I thought while it was on the road they might as well drive it
