Edge.....

Check your tyres, make sure they're MOT safe. My car failed on all four tyres, yours might have the same problem

(they crack through lack of usage )

lol..... philistines....

det cans are like very high quality ear defenders with a tube from each ear that goes to a bolt on the engine so you can hear the detonation as soon as it happens....

here are some electronic ones...

Anyway, back to business..... Pray tell what you use an engine stethoscope for... Listening for pinking maybe?

LOL....

you don't want to hear det. that's the point..... you have them on while the car is on the dyno so that as you bring the revs up, when/if you hear the slightest bit of det you can get off it quick enough..

if you dont use det cans, by the time the det is loud enough to hear over all the other noise, chances are, you've broken something..

simple really....

indeed it has phirrip.... indeed it has..

while i didn't get on the throttle hardly at all on the way to and from the MOT place the car definitely felt "lively", and that was off boost... There again, after not driving it for 6 months its hard to tell... plus, compared to the berlingo work van, walking seems lively speed wise !!!!

it ran fine all the way there and back, need a bit of fiddling in the dashpot decay rate functions to get it to coast down smoothly but other than that it was all good....

must buy a wide band o2 gauge though that i can have on all the time, having the afr I have now isnt much cop for a forced induction car, naturally aspirated yes, but not mine....the gauge will be up for sale soon i guess....

well... it's been quite a while since I've updated this so i thought I'd check in....

I've spent most of the time on the house so the Saleen isn't quite finished yet,  but it's getting there.  I went out and did a few hours of data-logging a fortnight or so ago and it's taken ages to go through it all.  I've been fiddling with the mapping since then and I just need to upload the current one on to the ECU and take it out for a test.  It so far, looks good up to 3750rpm ish, which realistically, is as much as you can hold on the road for any time.

Once this map is on the car and has tested ok it's time to bite a fairly large bullet and book a dyno day.  I've not been on boost at all yet as I wouldn't be able to hear any detonation soon enough.

I seem to have spent a ridiculous amount of time fiddling with the "coasting fuel shut off" flags which cuts the fuel off when you have been off the throttle for x amount of revs... its a pain and feels like you've dropped 2 cogs and are using engine breaking.  Apparently a lot of circuit racers like it as it helps braking...... useless on the A10 though..... still... i found out where to turn that off

So, get current map on and test..... then dyno...... happy days....
