That angle of that vert photo hides the issue though.

The problem is that extra portion on the bottom, the lower lit that has the 'Mustang" writing embossed into it.  It adds too much height to the back, and having the bumper rubbing strip so high, and the writing so low leaves a big plain gap in the middle.

To be honest if I didn't know better I'd say it was aftermarket as it just doesn't look right.

That Cervini one is nice, suits the car, follows the lines.

Ironically it looks very similar to an IROC rear bumper...

it does look like that actually doesnt it... and this cervini one is designed to work with the GT mouldings so its a perfect match for the sides...

I'll have to think about it, thats a lot of money to drop on a bumper...

the GT one looks no where near as bad now I've changed the lights and wheels though... its taken some of the depth off it somehow....

I was gonna say the same but say "Camaro" instead of IROC . . .

Makes sense really - improve a Frod by making it look more like a Chevy.

Cervinis do make a mustang styled hood for the 3rd gen which IMO make it look really cool...  bottom one on this page.
https://www.cervinis.com/product.aspx?car=1&id=1126#114

Would work well with a pair of Turbos...

I'd possibly have it if I could afford it, and had a different 3rd gen that I was modifiying as much as yours dean  I do think though that most of my interest in this hood is because it sets off the Crazy Mad Max part of my brain & makes me want to look out over this when driving...

did a compression test on the new motor just to make sure it was up to scratch before I put it in mine... planning on pulling the motor and trans as a single piece... could be fun.. then swapping the pedal box, prop and rear dif to make mine a 5 speed manual, with a rear end with discs, not drums..

compression test was perfect, I was thinking of putting a cam in it but its really not worth pulling the whole motor apart just for 15 hp.  If the motor ever needs a 'freshen up' i'll replace the cam then....

going to start photographing all the wiring connections so i know what goes where when it comes to putting it all back together !

The Cervini cowl hood looks much better imho.

The 302 Stang was always quicker at the strip than the 305 maro, it took the 350 motor to sort that out.

Interesting side by side road test of both in 1988:

The LX was amazingly good value, a good $3,500 cheaper than the IROC...

Interesting to note that the 1988-era 'hot' Chevy/Fordengines were 5.0L producing 225 hp, where as a comparable era 3.6L AJ6 Jaguar engine produced exactly the same power!

Yeah but a Jag cost a lot more than $13,000

It's also interesting to note that in 88 a Sierra Cosworth was producing about 10% less out of a turbo 2.0L engine and also cost several times more...

well.. not a huge update but ive been pulling little bits off the breaker to install in the GT, my parts order from Late model resto arrived (ages ago) and I've fitted the most important part... the Plug'n'Chug cup holder...  an amazingly solid peice of kit....

the black 'fin' at the bottom is solid and about 3 inches thick.  You pul the ashtray out of the console and this slots in, its a perfect fit and perfect colour match....

still hoarding other bits

Ive got a new pair of lx rear lamps that im thinking of tinting slightly, and new casings for them, new headlights, all the weather strips, new alternator, smog pump eliminator, dizzy cap and arm, oh, it was a pair of BIG boxes that arrived.....

suppose i should really mention that I fitted my new alternator to the GT too.  Now i have 130A to play with, the stocker is only 65A which means in traffic, you have to decide which 2 you need most out of wipers, heater blower and head lights !!!!!

130A is plenty... amazingly solid piece of kit the PA performance alternator.  moves the fan inside the unit and is a little bigger so i had to 'modify' the bracket slightly.  While i had the bracket off i had it cleaned and powdercoated so it all looks nice.  This will be transfered to the new engine once its in..

Engine is out !!!!!!!!!!!!!

i pulled the motor and trans as a sigle unit, left it on the crane for 3 hours while i heaved the front subframe off from under the car then reassembled it all on the floor, replaced the front springs with blocks of wood then dragged it round to the garage by the gearbox tail on the space savers...

thoroughly KNACKERED
