I notice my tank has picked up a few minor scratches but I think they're from my tankbag . . . not much I can do about that, really as I'm already very careful applying the bag in the mornings . . . . . .

Some of the tank bags have a mounting that stays on the bike and the bag unzips. That reduces the risk of damage and also makes it quicker to take your bag on/off daily

also makes it quicker

I can't see how using a zip could possibly be quicker than - literally - dropping a bag on the tank ?

Suppose it depends on what type of fixings you have

I'm guessing that yours is magnetic, hence the scratches

Yup - at the end of the day it's a 24 year old bike so a few scratches is fine, really.

my tank bag has the option of leaving the base on or not, but its a pain in the arse, honda paint being as thick and hard as it is, i haven't found any scratches from it.

i found the best method is to hold the 'wings' out at 90゜sit the bag on the tank, then let go of the wings, so the magnets pull themselves against the tank. to remove, i lift the 'wings' away then lift the bag off.

no scratches so far..

Mr Angry Ducati Owner

Took the bike for it's first 600 mile this morning, by shear fluke when I parked up at Ducati Aylesbury the speedo read exactly 600 miles

Little did I know this was going to cause a big problem [img]http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/dontknow.gif" alt="" border="0" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" class="bbc_img" />

Went shopping in Bicester with Mangement and picked the bike up mid afternoon.

Got half way home ( 24 miles from the Ducati shop ) and the ruddy service engine light came on

Stopped the bike and checked the oil level etc which was all ok, tried turning it on and off a couple of times and it didn't do anything [img]http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/sad.gif" alt="" border="0" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" class="bbc_img" />

Rang the shop and the ruddy answer phone was on

So got back on the bike and rode all the way back again

Not being one to mince about I drove straight into the service bay, the "technician " ( I hate that name -Grease monkey more like ) said " You can't just drive in here you have to report to reception "

Well I said you have just serviced this bike and the service indicate came on half back to Luton

Oh he said " It's a Ducati thing, you can only turn the light off once it's come on which is 20 miles after the service is due " FFS !

Well no one told me that, would you like to turn it off now ?

Can't mate the computer has been broken for a while

I'm not going to write the complaint letter tonight because I'm still to angry

martyn, you should have owned my lexus, or mustang.

an appointment for turning off a light is not a problem.. a 5 cylinder lexus GS250 is a problem. 22゜retarded ignition due to a bent crank is a problem. a pair of blown head gaskets are a problem. oil spraying from the front crank seal is a problem. £300 of failed sensors is a problem

re-setting a service light is a foible. it gives the bike character...

moral of the story? book the bike in for a service only when the light comes on..

If I'd known that I'd have done another 20 miles and saved myself a lot of grief

I've just checked and it doesn't mention this "foible" in the handbook

Actually that's not true

Because they still couldn't have turned it off

not so familiar with italian handbooks, are you? the panda must be an especially well written one..

for the alfa twin spark engines, when the handbook was translated to english,   they simply changed the Km to Mls for the cam belt service life.. this is typical italian behavior.

oddly enough, it didn't quite work out, and many cam belts protested.

on the plus side, you now know for the future.

Update : Sent a rather terse e-mail to Ducati Aylesbury last night, no reply as yet

I have the option of a free service indicator re-set at another well known Ducati dealer on Saturday

Just got an e-mail now :

Dear F Body,

Thank you for your email  - I am very sorry to hear of your bad experience with our service department on Saturday.  Steve Brockbank has been away for the last couple of weeks, but tells me he has now put your sales invoice in the post, so that should at least be one issue resolved.

I take on board your comments about the state of the department, although I do feel that the customer area in front of the counter is in fact very tidy. Admittedly, there is some disruption on the other side at the moment as were in the process of Ebaying all our old stock and there are a number of items waiting to be sent out.

There should, however, be no issues with paperwork as the job card for your service would have been printed off by our parts manager when you arrived.

Unfortunately, the service light on your Monster works on kilometres rather than miles and comes on at 1000km, which is 625 miles.  Ryan, my parts manager who you dealt with on Saturday, is very apologetic for negelecting to explain this to you when you collected the bike.  This would obviously have saved you the inconvenience of coming all the way back.

I am hoping that our diagnostic equipment will be sorted in the next couple of days and we will then be able to turn the service light off for you.  Alternatively, if there is another Ducati dealership closer to you, I would be happy to arrange for them to do this instead.  It's an easy job and should only take a few minutes.

I can assure you that the current lack of diagnostic equipment will not have affected your service in any way and that your bike has been serviced thoroughly.
If you have not completely lost faith in us and are prepared to
give us another chance, I will gladly make a note on your account to give
you a discount on your next service.

I will be in touch as soon as our equipment is up and running again - in the
meantime, please let me know if there is anything else we can do for you.

Sounds fair enough, although AY to Luton, that's a fair ol' trek for a service.

Hated every minute of being in AY when I was an apprentice...

Sounds fair enough,

Still don't have much confidence in a company that does the servicing without access to proper diagnostic equipment and doesn't tell the customer

With todays engines you can't do jack without one, even basic things like idle speed is adjusted electronically
