GMC Brakes update.
« on: June 13, 2006, 06:55:10 am »
Still an ongoing sarga , the new rear drums seem OK so I want to reconnect the self adjusters , just one problem ?
I can't get the new drums off
At the show on Sunday I bought the largest three leg extractor they had but it's not quite big enough.
So last night I resorted to a large hammer which failed and finally the blow torch and they still ain't moving !
I think I know what the problem is ?
The alloy wheels only have a very small chamfer on the central locating hole which has compressed the centre hole of the new drums onto the spiggot , if effect the edge is now angled outwards thus stopping the drum coming off.
Any ideas what to do now ?

I would drop by your local truck service center mate, they should have a puller big enough to remove it. Might also be worth having the drum machined so that it cant happen again or add a wheel spacer machined to match the rim
