Well i decided today was the day to change out the header gaskets on the scorpio. Warmed the car up to ease removal of the bolts with no problems at all. The heatshield bolts came right out. Once the heat shield was off i could see the reason for the manifold blow and that was the fact that 2 of the 6 bolts were missing. Removed the others with no problems. Once the manifold was removed i found out that the bolts werent missing they were sheard clean off so now i have to pull the head and drill the studs out.

Im guessin this was done by the same dumb fcuk who intaled the rear whel bearing back to front

An unbelieveably common problem on many cars.

I've had several with the odd stud sheared . . . .

Problem is they are both on the same port so there is no easy way round this one. I have to pull the head and if im pulling one i might aswell pull the otherside and do that gasket at the same time

And it gets better, the head bolts are use once only you just know fords gonna bend me over for the new ones

Ford parts are generally cheap, the biggest issue now is getting parts for any vehicle over ten years old. Despite the ten years spares ruling some manufacturers are now discontinuing parts after 7 years

6 each side plus the gaskets which im having trouble finding so might need to be a ford purchase

wrong there mate both shifty and rastafonti have rebuilt alfa's at home

indeed and i noticed it was blowing form the day i got it but just ignored it. But with an MOT de next month and the fuel economy taking a dive as the lambda is next to the blow i thought i would fix it

bit of a different era though dude, a boxer 33 is a very different beast to the later twin spark engines - they are pretty damned complicated, it is possible to DIY them, but far less likely..

okay but vision is not 100% and wont be until next week when i can go back to wearing the contact lense i need in the right eye to correct the vision.
