General Banter / Never thought I'd be doing this...
« on: August 27, 2010, 01:56:50 am »
Sitting in San Diego at the Hilton bay front posting crap on an iPad!
Don't worry I've not gone crazy and bought one, but this is actually quite cool.... Pointless... And has no legitimate place in the market But cool :-)

And I'm afraid to say, very good predictive text engine.

If I was rich I'd get one.... After I bought the Aston obviously.

Oh and on a side note... I love driving in america!  My hire car is a crappy Hyundai elantra, but hopefully tomorrow I get to drive Vikis Infinity FX which is very swish.  I think the car hire guy must have fancied her more than me

Classifieds & Useful eBay Links / Daily driver for possible sale...

I'm just testing the waters here.  Is anyone interested in purchasing a '99 Hyundai Coupe 2.0 SE. at the low price of £1k.

The reason its so cheap is it has some damage and a little rust, though it is mechanically sound. (if anyones interested i can get pics)

The reason the topic says possible, is that I'm interested in raising the cash to buy edges camaro (if its still available) and, of course, don't want to let it go if the 'maro's gone or goes in the mean time.

This was circulated at work (officially).  Two of the Four I knew (first and last), but the second and third one sound very interesting, and would be useful if i had a spare set of keys

Emergency
The emergency number worldwide for mobile phones is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area for your mobile network, in an emergency dial 112. The mobile will search all networks to establish an emergency, number for you. Also the number 112 can be dialled even if the keypad is locked.

Have you locked your keys in the car?
If your car has a remote keyless entry, and you lock your keys in the car, call home, on your mobile, and get someone to locate your spare set of keys. Hold your mobile about quarter of a metre from the door of your car. Have the person on the other end press the unlock button on your spare set of keys while holding it near to the mobile phone they are using. It will unlock your car, saves someone having to drive your spare set of keys to you.

Hidden battery power
If your mobile battery is very low. Press the keys *3370# your mobile will restart showing a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will recharge when you next charge your mobile phone.

How to disable a stolen mobile
To check your mobile phone's serial number key in *#06#. A 15 digit number, which is unique to your handset, will appear. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. If your phone is stolen, ring your service provider giving them this code. They can then block the phone, even if the SIM is changed, the phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but you will know that whoever stole the phone cannot use it or sell it.
If everyone did this there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

This may have been asked before but...

I'm really lazy so was wondering if it's possible to have a link back to the Main Forum page at the bottom of the page (nr the posting box).  just to save the precious few seconds it takes to scroll to the top or ctrl-pgup.

General Banter / The Bathtub test...
« on: February 23, 2007, 01:12:41 pm »
It doesn't hurt to take a hard look at yourself from time to time, and this should help get you started.

During a visit to the mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director what the criterion was which defined whether or not a patient should  be institutionalized.

"Well," said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub."

"Oh, I understand," said the visitor. "A normal person would use the bucket because it's bigger than the spoon or the teacup."

"No." said the Director, "A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?"

DID YOU PASS, OR DO YOU WANT THE BED NEXT TO MINE?

General Banter / Seasons Greetings!
« on: December 21, 2006, 10:27:24 am »
Seasons Greetings

Dear Friends

I wanted to send out some sort of holiday greeting to you, but it is so
difficult in today's world to know exactly what to say without offending
someone. So I met my solicitor, and on his advice I wish to say the
following:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an
environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive,
gender neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within
the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion, or secular
practices, of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular
persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice
religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically
uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar
year 2007, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other
cultures whose contributions to society have helped make Great Britain great
(not to imply that Great Britain is necessarily greater than any other
country or is the only "Great Britain" in the northern hemisphere), and
without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious
faith, or sexual preference of the wishee.

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms:

* This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal.

* It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting.

* It implies no promise by the wisher actually to implement any of the
wishes for himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is
revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher.

* This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application
of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a
subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited
to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion
of the wisher.

Disclaimer:

No trees were harmed in the sending of this message, however, a significant
number of electrons were inconvenienced (probably).

Dunno if this has already been posted, but....

Looks link Dell's not the only ones affected by sony's exploding batteries:

Battery Exchange Program iBook G4 and PowerBook G4
Apple has determined that certain lithium-ion batteries containing cells manufactured by Sony Corporation of Japan pose a safety risk that may result in overheating under rare circumstances.

The affected batteries were sold worldwide from October 2003 through August 2006 for use with the following notebook computers: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4 and 15-inch PowerBook G4.
