Those RS500's were truly awesome, i can remember watching them on TV with my dad when i was younger. Its sad that cars like that are no longer produced. To think that the road going version of the RS500 was £19k back in the day and although not 540hp it was still a respectable 250hp and was easily tunable for much more

This was the closest I ever got to owning one.  Still rate them as one of the best and most comfortable drives I've ever owned

The Texaco cars were backed by Ford money and the sky was the limit for their budget.  Fords opinion was you can have whatever you want to make sure they win.
The Labbatts car belonging hqd no such backing but it was built by Rousse.

Got to love the commentry  at just before 3mins into this one where The Labatts car pulls out to pass and Murray Walked informs us that "Steve Soper has an experimental engine fitted with higher turbo boost" and the thing launches past the Texaco car, lol!

I stopped watching Touring Cars about 3 years into the replacment format with the Mondo V6.  Nice car and there were some great races but when you realise that the engines can come from any car in the group (Mondeo was running 2L V6 from Mazda) and that they're not really the same as the road car you stop rooting for your favorite and don't bother watching...

awesome audi vid, the touring cars did seem to lose the plot for a while, but they do offer some close racing again these days,
the old cars look much more fun to drive,

rarely see any rally stuff on tv now,as its tucked away at stupid oclock usually,

Awesome vid andy those were proper cars with 5 speed manuals none of this sequential bullshit. Although rouse was running with :nos: i have this from a reliable source the same as Dave brodie was running avgas. Still those were the last of the proper tourig cars as far as i am concerned

last time touring cars were any good to watch was in the early 90's with the highlights being either gabrielli tarquinis dramatic use of the kerbs resulting in some spectacular two wheel action in the alfa 155, of volvo debuting in the 850 estate, and making quite an impact..

more into rallying

to the extent that I actually find it interesting i have never been gripped by watching any Track based Motor sport TBH.

I used to watch F1 for a bit when i lived with the Ex a few years ago because she was totally into that, but even then I just got bored and went off & did other things.
Touring cars (or anything with a Car-looking-car I happen to catch) just seems pointlessly noisy and I can't get the image out of my head that they just look like they're just a bunch of Chavs doing about 40mph round the Morrisons Carpark.
And American NASCAR/Indy Car "driving in circles" racing comes right at the bottom of the pile i'm afraid.

those volvo estates took a few by surprise,
no doubt did wonders for sales,

the thing is that going to see a live event such as indy/f1 is a totally different thing to watching it on tv,
much like a concert compared to a video, hence the reason why these events get mahoosive crowds,

i have been to
f1,indy,moto gp,rally gb,touring cars, karting, the TT,drag racing, and all sorts of other track racing ,and on the day have never been dissapointed at the events

This was the closest I ever got to crashing one.

It was the Hedges fault, it jumped right in front of me [img]http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/rtfm.gif" alt="" border="0" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" class="bbc_img" />

Didn't crash that one. someone pre-crashed it for me.
Sold it on cos the chassis was a little bent.

My silver one was good. shifty ended up with it.
