Sold it to me, I only use my mac book for web browsing and Spotify.... Maybe this could be a good, cheap-ish upgrade as my macbook is old now
See now, I was thinking about where to position the product in the market last night in the shower instead of w@nking and I figured this is EXACTLY where Apple planned to place the iPad. Like Google with the up-comming Chrome OS - Apple have realised the opportunity in the fact that not everyone needs an uber powerful rig with every program on, instead, most of the market just use their computer for checking emails, FB, youtube and general net browsing. I couldn't think of a better, lower hassle product to do just that than the iPad (and fairly well priced considering Apple design and build quality).
My Uncle for example, never used a computer, but has a want to get onto the net for very occational browsing. Put the user-friendly controls and application libary of the iTouch together with a bigger iPhone and you get the iPad.
Pretty brilliant really when you think about it - this IS innovation of the product - don't compare this thing to a lappy or rig, this is a totally different device for people with different asperations and needs of a communication device.
So, although I couldn't see where to place this initially, I think this was because I hadn't thought of the target audience which is a new target audicence.
In short - people have been using computers and the net to communicate and find new uses for the devices, but that was becuase they were the only way to access information and the net. Along comes internet enabled phones which then segments the computer using audience into two, one with the requirment for a rig to run all programs and the other who just need an occasional access point for browsing and using information rather than inputting new information.
