General Banter / Camaro Wheels Bought - Where To Fit?

Got my wheel fixed eventually and collected the car today. Lack of free time up here meant I ended up taking the camaro back to Paragon and leaving it with them for 10 days so they could put the new wheel on while I went away on holiday. Cost of fitting the new wheel and stripping off the tyre to give it me back - 20 quid.

They are brill! And I can drive the camaro now for more than a day without pumping up the tyre.

Panasonics have decent quality lenses in that price bracket (bought my ex one a year or so back). Otherwise Fuji and Canon Sureshots are usually worth considering

£150 for the pair? Would like the tyres back though. 3 of the 4 rims are fine and all have 4 nuts and the nut-cover-thing-I-can't-remember-the-name-of. No locking wheel nut though.

For longer than I care to remember I've had bead leak in the front offside alloy. Got quoted over 500 quid to supply and fit a new wheel from Paragon, where I get the Camaro serviced (not really them, more the supplier they use charging daft money I think).

ANYway...trawling ebay paid dividends - set of 4 original used 16" chrome alloys from another 1999 Z28 with barely used tyres (higher speed versions too, not the bog standards mine has currently) for 299 quid. Seems he had same problem as me but instead of replacing 1 wheel, he's had all 4 replaced by some "very modern" (ahem) sporty looking alloys.Not so good for his camaro but good for me...3 of the 4 are in great nick.

Anyhoo - who best to fit? Does anyone know anyone local to MK that would remove my dodgy wheel, take the tyre off 1 of my new ones and fit the wheel (and supply a new standard 235/R16) to my car for a decent price? I'm not really keen to go to kwik fit/fast fit etc as I might with a standard 4 wheeled box.

Plan on keeping the others as spares (and could conceivably replace all 4 tyres on my camaro with the speedy ones I suppose) but if anyone needs one or 2, feel free to get in touch also.

OMG!!! If I'd known they were that cheap when I bought the "sensible" daily driver last November I'd have said "sod it!", saved up a bit longer and even contemplated selling the Camaro for one of those....

They'll insure just about anything not just competition vehicles

They weren't so keen on my Camaro - value of £5kish, mileage of 5000 fully comp their best was £560!

Went with Flux in the end - £390 for 5k mileage pa, Euro cover, driving other cars, windscreen and audio cover, legal protection and building up NCB on the car too. More than last year but the best deal I could get. Cheers for the recommendations peeps.

Sorry peeps been away a few days - so good to have some experiences to refer to.

How does the NCB thing work with 2nd motors? I've got 16 years on my main motor and had the Camaro for a couple of years without claiming anything - can I build up no claims on the 2nd motor automatically or would that depend on the policy allowing it? Does anyone know?

For the last 2 years I've been with Sureterm for the Camaro, who have regularly quoted around 300 quid fully comp, much less than anyone else. Not this time - £672 is the best they can manage, even after ringing them. So time to get on the phone I guess!

So - who are you all with at the mo'?

The fact it was nearly turned into housing is just....awful. A good part of the track is still left in several places thankfully (just check it out on Google Earth).

if you've not been, you really owe it to yourself to. Slightly odd location for mopars, as its steeped in Bently and brough superior history, and was in many ways one of the birthplaces of European Grand Grix racing, but its worth a visit no matter what is on. (odd as in being like having MR2's at Rockingham - not their native ground, but cool none the less)

the shocking thing is the surface really wasn't much better when the 24 liter napier - railton was charging round at over 140 mph in the early 30's and the banking really is THAT steep....


If you like cars, no matter what sort of cars, you really really need to go, you'll love it.

Exactly. Really glad I went. The Yanks being there was a bonus. They DID look a little incongruous in what is a very "English" set up but it did mean we stayed there quite a bit longer than we otherwise would have done.

Always meant to go and never got round to it - finally went on Sunday and had a whale of a time. Fabulous place, real sense of history all around.

Sunday coincided with a mopar club day so the place was full of Yanks - not just mopars but all kinds of stuff, with plenty I've not seen (mind you, I've only really been to Billing a couple of times now). Pics will be up on my smugmug gallery hopefully tonight or tomorrow (got some on facebook at the mo' but obviously that's not much use for anyone not on FB...)

But that's a natural consequence of cars being made easier to drive I guess. Would be a good idea for everyone driving to have to take lessons in how to handle emergencies. Trouble is cars are generally a lot more safe and reliable these days so people rarely come across serious issues...

I had visions of Flip sitting there in first class with a glass of fine Irun Bru, relaxed, legs extended onto leg-rest, free wireless in every carrage with enough room for a steering wheel and peddles to play Gran Turizmo.. Ar ar... No, not 1st class - but getting on at Wolverton is far enough away from London to make sure I get a seat and I can usually pick exactly where I wanna sit, so I'm more fortunate than say, the mob getting on at MK or Leighton Buzzard.

Usually I sit and read or play my PSP or just shut me eyes if I'm knackered. The nobs in 1st class don't get that much extra really for what they pay. Not with London Midland anyway, the Virgins from MK (not many of them around, ar ar) might be different.

Even though I have it pretty good compared to many train commuters, the sheer distance can be a drag sometimes I must admit now. Still, London money beats MK salaries easy...!
