« on: May 25, 2008, 10:00:08 pm »
Symptoms:

PC BSOD's when playing EVE Online with 2 windows running, Tiled with 1 running behind the other.  The problem happens randomly but only under these circumstances.

From what i've found online there are a million possible reasons for this error to occur so can anyone help in finding the reason why its happening to me please?

Paste the numbers in brackets after the STOP 0x0000008E bit.
Do you have SP3 installed? (probably won't fix it, but still a good thing to have)
Does it happen with the case sides off?
What temperatures are the cpu, video card and memory running at?
You can get a variety of programs which will tell you at least some of those.
Is the memory running at the correct timings/settings?

Do a search of your computer for the file halokx2k.sys and see what it is a part of.

If you right click on the ha10kx2k.sys file and click on properties, does it say what it is a driver for?

What sound card do you have?

Its by Creative Labs which means that it is for my soundcard... That is an Audigy 2 which is Very old, infact i think its the only surviving component of my original Evesham Machine from 2001

Reckon it could need replacing? (even though physically it works fine!) as its now well & truly out of software support

Get your self a 'Creative X-fi Xtreme Music' sound card off ebag. Only 30 quid and will sort your problem.

I found this...  it may help for the time being....

Its something about DUAL OR QUAD CPUS Affinities. So basically, I don't know why but, if you set ONLY CPU 0 on both eve.exe you should be fine without any BSOD...

How you do that??? CTRL + ALT + DELETE , Right click on WoW.exe and then click on SET AFFINITY and just make sure you use CPU0 on both eve.exe...

You should no longer have the BSOD HA10KX2K.SYS error...

You can also try removing the sound card (while it's switched off! ) and see if it still crashes then.

Check Creative's website to see if there are any new(er) drivers.

I have tried this, i put both EVE.exe's on CPU0 and it was constantly maxed out (according to the little screen on my Keyboard), So I have set one to each of CPU0 and CPU1 which has balanced it out a bit.  this will stop them crossing between the processors and will hopefully have the same effect without over working 1/2 of my processor.

Now "testing"...

Stop 0xC2 or BAD_POOL_CALLER
The Stop 0xC2 message indicates that a kernel-mode process or driver incorrectly attempted to perform memory operations in the following ways:

By allocating a memory pool size of zero bytes.
By allocating a memory pool that does not exist.
By attempting to free a memory pool that is already free.
By allocating or freeing a memory pool at an IRQL that was too high.
This Stop message is typically due to a faulty driver or software.

Possible Resolutions:

A Stop 0xC2 messages might occur after installing a faulty device driver, system service, or firmware. If a Stop message lists a driver by name, disable, remove, or roll back the driver to correct the problem. If disabling or removing drivers resolves the issues, contact the manufacturer about a possible update. Using updated software is especially important for multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, DVD playback, and CD mastering tools.
A Stop 0xC2 messages might also be due to failing or defective hardware. If a Stop message points to a category of devices (such as disk controllers, for example), try removing or replacing the hardware to determine if it is causing the problem.
If you encounter a Stop 0xC2 message while upgrading to Windows XP, the problem might be due to an incompatible driver, system service, virus scanner, or backup. To avoid problems while upgrading, simplify your hardware configuration and remove all third-party device drivers and system services (including virus scanners) prior to running setup. After you have successfully installed Windows XP, contact the hardware manufacturer to obtain compatible updates.

** this error only seems to apply to windows 2000 and windows server editions... I'm confused

Last two Motherboards i've owned have had pretty good built in soundcards.  Didn't even think about looking for a sound card when i last upgraded just assumed they were no longer necessary....
