What internet browser do you use?
« on: September 04, 2009, 10:03:00 pm »
Well?

I use F.Fox on a Mac, I recently downloaded A sample version of Google chrome as it isn't yet released on the Mac, but it isn't all there yet, so I am back to F.Fox.

But I was wondering, because Google chrome is surely the best browser on Windows IMO, and F.Fox is still the best on Mac....

This is also quite a query as I am nosey and would like to know what people like Edge use as you run both Windows and Mac OSX....?

Firefox all the way on Windows. Did fall out of love with it after they released a suspect version about two years ago that lost all my bookmarks.

I have got both Opera and Google Chrome, but have F.fox setup how i like it so don't really bother.

Have Opera running pretty successfully on my mobile, allows me some browsing while at work.

Safari 4, syncs all my bookmarks with my iPhone plus it has some nifty features and is the fastest browser...

I have Firefox 3 on my Windows virtual machine.

All browsers are faster than my internet connection, and i don't have a Mac or an iphone or any sort of web phone to synch anything with so I just use IE.

I use iTunes for my ipod, and thats cool, does its job etc

Chrome all the way, by far the fastest and most user friendly browser ever invented.  The only drawback is that Google haven't included the auto complete thing from their IE/FF toolbar (but i have missed it less than i thought)

Looking forward to the Google chrome OS, if it's as good as the browser it's going to be sweet!

I found the auto complete thing quite useful, but I admit I have survived quite well without it.

I can't imagine why anyone is using FF or IE when Chrome is out there.  Its like walking to your terminal, dragging your luggage, when you could be on the conveyor sweeping past everyone else effortlessly...

I only use FF or IE if I really have to... basically for egg money manager as that is the only site I use which does not support Chrome.

Chrome gave me problems when I first downloaded it, but that may have been the beta.

Maybe it's time to give it another try.

See that would drive me mad, and is probably another reason why I use IE, if I had to switch between browsers to see different sites.

I use Safari but have Firefox as a backup for any site which is badly written.

But over the last 2-3 years I have noticed that everything (including my Bank) now work with Safari (ie they are standards compliant).

I do have a developer preview of Chrome which seems ok too.

Installed Chrome on our laptop, and yes it seems great.

Installed it at work, and remembered why I deleted it again.  The work internet is fed through a proxy server.  EVERY new session on Chrome asks me to log onto the proxy again, and I can't see any option for it to remember settings.

Works ok for me at work.

It uses the proxy settings from windows (the same as IE)

options/under the hood/Change proxy settings/lan settings

never been asked to log in separately, but our network could be setup differently...

Some intranet sites might get confused, but the internet is ok.

Out of interest, How do you actually quantify the speed of each different browser software.  i'm not talking about your connection speed, but some of you have described firefox/chrome/safari as 'faster' than IE, what exactly do you mean by that?

Pages render quicker.

I remember someone telling me it was something to do with the way javascript is handled, but can't remember any more than that.

All I can say is, on our crap laptop, it's noticeably quicker than IE and FF.

Hell just the time it takes IE to load is enough for me to not use it.

On my work craptop, by the time IE (or FF for that matter) has loaded, Chrome is up and i'm already on my 2nd post...er.. i mean working hard on some interwebsite thingy... :)

On my desktop loading times are much closer, but you really shouldn't need a super pc just to run a blomin' browser!
