Title: Update on the Chav'scort, Now including redneck automotive tips to keep it on the road
Post by: Roadkill on November 24, 2005, 05:32:23 pm
Well.  I've had the Chav'scort now for 16 full days.

In that time I've travelled 2,310 Miles in her = 145 miles a day.

On monday I put £41 in her which got 430 = 9.5p per mile.

So.

I've done approx 2,050 (work) miles in her = £820 in "Own car" expenses.

2,050 miles would've cost me £192.

£820 - £192 = £628.

Cost of Chav'scort = £400.

£628 - 400 = £228.

Insurance cost £296.

£228 - £296 = - £68.

Basically.  When I drive to Southampton again on Tuesday the Chav'scort would've paid for herself and her insurance within 3 weeks.

Damn.  Should've done this earlier.

Now all funds raised from the Chav'scort will go into the Cadillac / Camaro Funds.  (although my mileage isn't likely to be that high again for sometime . . . . )

Not quite.  £300 is owed to PhilO, £100 will pay off the Insurance.

The remaining has effectively paid for the LSD, as I went into Overdraft to pay for that and the O/D has now gone.

Hmmm.

Got a call from Bletchley police about 20 mins ago . . . Doesn't sound good . . . I offered to come and pick her up, but they said it needed to be taken back for testing . . . .

Never had a car nicked before . . . I'm not too sure how I feel.

I'm glad it didn't have much petrol in her.

I'm also glad I took the Camaro's keys out of her just yesterday afternoon !

Christ knows what I'm gonna do now . . .  (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/confused.gif)

O.K, now the officer in charge is off til Monday !!!

Lazy B*$t@rd - that's 3 working days out of 8 !!!

So I phone the garage who've got it (spoke to someone half useful this time) they say they can "Get me on my way" although the alarm would've disabled the car (???).

Steering lock is F*cked.  Damage to back seat isn't "Too bad" and the Scrapes and dents "Aren't terrible".

No mention of the Stereo or CDs . . . . .

Finally there is a £105 recovery charge on the Vehicle !!!!!!

Even after I said I didn't want it recovered . . . Me thinks The police have deals going on with the recovery firms . . .

All in all Sh!t, really, and I may not even have it back 'til well into next week.

He Politely "Suggested" that I do not use it for attending site in anymore - instead use the van.

Spose it is company image isn't it, you turning up in a smashed up car doesn't look great, thing is with a new wing a can of spraypaint & some form of cover for the rear seat (even a blanket) it wont look too bad.

It makes me feel very resentful - repairing a car which some F*ckers messed up.

It's worse when it now has no real value AND because of its condition is now looking redundant unless money and time is thrown at it.

PHIL.

DID THE CHAV'SCORT HAVE A SPARE WHEEL ?

IT'S NOT THERE NOW.

THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL TRIM WAS MISSING SO I WAS THINKING MAYBE THEY HIT SOMETHING WHICH BLEW-OUT THE TYRE AND THE RECOVERY REPLACED IT AND DITCHED THE ORIGINAL (AND TRIM).

Just a thought though.

Have now got (and fitted) replacement front indicator and headlight bulb.
Have got a new back seat slightly different colour but pretty close IMO.
Got replacement panels for steering column and a couple of other bits what were damaged too.
Got a new clock as the original LCD had started to leak in to parts of the display it shouldn't have.
Got replacement door lock barrel although the original just about still works . . .
Got some replacement side indicators but they're different from the original so we'll see . . .

O.K

The seat is now fitted.  And it's been agreed that it's a pretty good match considering the alternative.

The new interior panels/bits are fitted.

The new clock is fitted but I damaged the display on that one in the process (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/smirk.gif) However it's still not as bad as the original - Yet.

Now it just needs a good hoover out and an air freshener and the interior will be back to normal.

After that it's the Bodywork, locks and Indicators . . . .

I'll need a new wing for sure, a couple a cans of spray paint will hide the worse and hopefully the bumper will pull back with some cable ties.

Latest Update . . .

She's now done 10,600 miles in my possesion - 23 Weeks = 460+ miles per week av.

She's done just under 2,000 miles this month (so far) - Of which 1,413 are work only miles . . . . .

Basically She earned me £615 this month, less costs (about £160 petrol - £10 brakes) =

£445. (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/up.gif)

My SIX New Cooper Cobra's are cost £420 - So I know where that money's going . . . . (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/smirk.gif)

LATEST UPDATE !!!

She has just passed 129,200 miles - That 13,000+ in my possesion.

Petrol return is pretty crappy but my mileage is low at the moment.

I got less then 80 miles for a tenner this week.

However, the worst bit . . . . . . She's picked up a noise.

First it used to come and go once in a while but this morning it started and stopped, started and stopped, started and stopped . . . . all through the drive into work.

It's a loud screachy sound coming from the right hand side of the engine bay . . . back of the motor . . . doesn't seem to be speed related, just comes and goes without pattern.

Ideas ?

could be related to not having had an oil change in 26,000 miles? (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/lol.gif)

seriously, i think the accelerated engine wear has wasted much more fuel than the £10 some el cheapo oil would have cost you...

the clutch release bearing is prone to squeal on these cars, but only in old damp mornings...

probably about to call time..

She takes about a litre of water every 50-100 miles or so . . depending on the run.

She's now passed 137,000 miles and is now that little bit lighter due to the heat shields I've just yanked off of her ! (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/rofls.gif)

They were all lose so I thought it best to remove them now as the noise was irritating me and to save them falling off while travelling down the motorway at some point in the future.

I also noticed that the fuel tank looks pretty rusty and the tailpipe section after the last box looks like it may fall off any time now.

There's also some fairly major rust on the NSR chassis leg.

Did you ask carl about getting you some of this?

As for chavscorts figured mine was due a wash seeing as its been over a year (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/rofls.gif) out with the powerwasher and goodbye to the rear qtr panel (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/rofls.gif) seems the dreaded tin worm has taken a liking to the top of the arch(http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/down.gif) oh well it can stay like that. Did give the old girl a polish as the paint was a little dull so now it kinda all looks the same color (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/up.gif) might even look at a service in the new year(http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/tongue.gif)

UPDATE !

She passed 139,000 miles a couple of days ago . . . . !

She's only a few miles from achieving (unbelieveably) 23,000 miles in my ownership (PhilO will tell you that's around 35-40,000 miles without an oil change).

She's over-heated twice this week due to lack of water so -

Regarding the water leak . . . . I finally decided to do a little mythbusting and roughly crushed about a level dessert spoon full of black pepper corns . . . .

So far, and this could be coincidence, it appears to have actually slowed the leak . . . maybe even stopped it (but this is hard to tell with the rain).
