Time to get insurance again....
« on: August 16, 2013, 07:27:14 am »
Feel a bit like Edge (except I drive my car)

Just had my renewal turn up for the Camaro from Classicline who I went with last year. Cannot complain about the service, can complain about the premium. It's actually up £50 on last year to £552 for fully comp at 5000 miles.

Will be doing some hunting in my lunch hour to see what I can get it down to, until then, can you guys suggest some names?

I'm feeling kind of lucky with companies as I now have a year experience and am 25! Makes all the difference!

They've already sent an email quote through reckoning £299. Will ring them up and see if that changes.

A-Plan - £470.00 Fully Comp + £200 excess - said it was with a performance car specialist as opposed to a classic car specialist. Mentioned AF's price and said they wouldn't be able to come anywhere close!

Classicline (who I'm with) will match Adrian Flux on receiving a copy of their quote so they can match it up. Prefer this option as I'd like to stay with Classicline. Will still try the others out.

Yeah alright, alright! Do you know how depressing it is giving your life story over the phone every time?

Most annoying bit is doing all that then them going, 'ok, I'll ring you back once I've got a price' then nothing. (Stevenage take note)

Much more positive than a year ago where none of them would speak to me because of my lack of insurance in a LHD or my age!

Blooming heck CP! HIC just came in with a storming quote of £240 Fully Comp. he did try a bit of pressure selling though, I said I wanted to see the policy details and he said he'd only be able to hold that price if I took it out on this phone call, or today.

Currently:

HIC : £240
Classicline: £368 (subject to seeing Adrian Flux's quote)
Adrian Flux: £368
A-Plan: £470
Footman James: Too young, would have to be 30 to get a policy with them!
Stevenage: Too young.
Frank Pickles: she said what type of car, Camaro, how old? 1991 model, she then said the car was too new. :(

Still waiting on RH and MCE to get back to me.

Each 'advisor' is trying to hit their own targets, so X amount of customers this week signed up. That is poor tactics deployed by that person, but unfortunately, the companies are to blame by pushing these targets so heavily.

Basically, if you call back and speak to someone else, the price will be the same, but the initial advisor will not get the mark on his account as a conversion.

I'd call back and ask for an agreed value too included in that price (usually £15 extra if I remember correctly).

BTW, I have my Cherokee insured with them, fully comp, 20k miles, protected full NCB etc and that was cheaper than anyone else could get near (around £620 I think).

Other companies were fixatied with the engine size and not that it was a specialist vehicle. My 1.8 Mondeo was around 600 to insure for the same as above, all other companies were asking for nearly 1k to insure the Cherokee!! Reasoning? It's a 2.5 engine and not a 1.8. :epic-fecking-facepalm:

So, the Cherokee is nearly 2 tons and accelrates slowly with around 90-100BHP, where as the Mondeo could reach 'normal' car speeds quite quickly with around 110/120BHP.

Okay if you look at Torque, the Cherokee can pull a house down, but they purely went on 1800cc Vs 2500cc - and not Petrol Vs Diesel or take into consideration different engine technologies. :soapbox:

Well, still no email containing the policy details, which I really want to see before I go any further. Have been bitten once badly by a company getting the details wrong and then refusing to refund after hiking the price up!

But if they are that good, I might try them with my daily too. Expecting that in the next couple of weeks. This time of year sucks!

Speak to someone else buddy and chase it. I usually get emails from them within minutes of speaking to someone.

Well after a week of getting prices and not getting phone calls returned I've settled with HIC. They set through the paperwork and apart from the details about the name and me having a brain fart and forgetting how many years I've had a license, I'm now insured for the princely sum of £240.74. Which is less than half than my initial renewal, which is pretty pleasing! I will be firing my Focus their way as well to see what they can do with that as I'm expecting a love letter from Admiral anytime soon!
