Classifieds & Useful eBay Links / 1982-2002 f-body panhard bar
« on: August 05, 2012, 07:51:29 pm »
This is not the stock stamped steel factory piece, but the tubular single adjustable UMI Performance panhard bar. It has polyurethane on the chassis end with UMI's roto joint for the axle end.

If you have lowered your f-body, you should have this to re-centre the axle in the car.

Bought approx two years ago and has only covered a maximum of 1500 miles (if that!) It is in as new condition. Both the polyurethane and roto joint ends have been regularly greased with poly marine grease and show no signs of wear.

This is UMI part number 2036 and is here:

http://www.umiperformance.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_138_106&products_id=357

The panhard bar for sale is black and not red as per the above link.

Looking for offers around £100.

General Banter / The Fiero lives
« on: May 09, 2012, 06:45:40 pm »
Since my disaster with my caliper collapsing a few months back - we decided to take the car off the road and give her a bit of an engine rebuild.

Here is a link to a small photo history with a small video towards the end which was taken today after we had finished and started her up again for the first time.

http://s16.photobucket.com/albums/b25/a91rs_camaro/Fiero%202012%20-%20rebuild/?action=view&current=001.jpg#!oZZ1QQcurrentZZhttp%3A%2F%2Fs16.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb25%2Fa91rs_camaro%2FFiero%25202012%2520-%2520rebuild%2F%3Faction%3Dview%26current%3D061.jpg

To say I am a happy bunny is an understatement and she sounds and runs sooooo much better than before.

Enjoy!

Projects / Scary moment
« on: March 12, 2012, 07:52:11 am »
I was driving home in my 88 GT Fiero on Wednesday night. It was a stretch of two lane highway with a 50mph limit and I was doing 50mph, when the steering started shimmying and vibrating, followed by an almighty bang. I went to brake but the pedal went to the floor and the dash light came on.
I shifted to neutral and steered onto the verge as the traffic slowed for an intersection, where I called my husband. The positioning of the car when he got there was a bit precarious but to make matters worse a quick inspection of front brakes revealed nothing on the drivers side but the heavy traffic on the passenger side meant he couldn't safely investigate on the road side.
We called the recovery company and after a few hours got the Fiero home on a transporter.
Yesterday morning was the first opportunity my husband had to pull the wheel off and see what was going on. We both got a real shock that we still haven't got over.
We have no idea what caused this.

I would like to add that it was only 10 months ago we replaced all the pads, discs, pad pins and the slider pins were removed, cleaned and regreased.

Now the next question is - what do I replace them with? Do I just go for remanufactured or consider an upgrade? She's now off the road for however long this takes - I have bought another little runaround to get me to and from work on a daily basis - boy I'm gonna miss driving my GT!!!!

« on: June 27, 2011, 05:59:55 pm »
Looking for recommendations for someone who can rebuild or re-set up a GM 10-bolt limited slip diff.

The current rear gears were installed and set up by a company twice but each time they have a slight whine, very common with Richmond gears we know but we want it better.

Thanks

General Banter / My Fiero
« on: May 07, 2011, 04:55:10 pm »
Couple of weeks ago I ordered a new dash kit for my Fiero as the wood effect was just pure nasty.

Spent a few hours today replacing it and wow what a difference.

Here are some piccies of before and after:

The guy I bought from also sent me a Fiero GT keychain, but as I already had a Pontiac keyfob made another use for it:

Very very pleased with the outcome.

General Banter / Help needed
« on: August 09, 2010, 11:59:46 am »
A work colleague's father owns a 65 Chevy Impala.  It is a shell and was going to restore it.  He has bought almost everything new to go on it and the engine has been upgrated from the 5.2 to a 7.5.

The shell is in very good condition and really only needs the parts putting back on but unfortunately his health is deteriorating rather rapidly and wants to just get shot of it as it is.

Anyone guide me on what it could be worth so I can pass this information onto him.

If you need any more info please let me know and I can find out.

Many thanks

Projects / Trans-Am
« on: April 11, 2010, 08:24:57 pm »
The Trans-Am has been off the road since September last year and over the past 2 weeks we have been spending time working on her.   We had ordered from the US a lot of suspension bits n pieces.

With the suspension parts now on, she sits about 1 inch lower - not too much but enough to make a hell of a difference to handling.

Well, this morning she was back on four wheels and outside for a big wash and polish reading for next Saturday's MOT (fingers crossed!) and then if she passes we will be off to Billing on Sunday.

Anyway, before we got a call from our friends who's Firebird's engine decided to go bang, I took some pictures (on my iphone so not the best!) and here they are:

General Banter / Big insurance rant
« on: March 29, 2010, 02:21:37 pm »
Why is that you have been with one insurance company for god knows how many years and each year the policy just keep renewing itself (apart from ringing them once a year to take off the breakdown cover they automatically add on at renewal) only to receive out of the blue a phone call to say “can I have your membership number of the recognised club you belong to”.    Err we don’t actually belong to a recognised club except the one we run (being going since 1987 but took over 18 months ago) so therefore number “1”.  Sorry but that club isn’t recognised – so you either have to join a recognised club or we will have to re-calculate your policy and this will probably come in at double the current policy price!!!!!! WTF?????  Not once in 17 years of American Car ownership have they asked this question – why now??
