General Banter / My Fiero
« on: May 07, 2011, 04:55:10 pm »
Couple of weeks ago I ordered a new dash kit for my Fiero as the wood effect was just pure nasty.

Spent a few hours today replacing it and wow what a difference.

Here are some piccies of before and after:

The guy I bought from also sent me a Fiero GT keychain, but as I already had a Pontiac keyfob made another use for it:

Very very pleased with the outcome.

Clare

No it didn't happen there - it apparently got hit by a Vauxhall Corsa a few weeks back and they are trying to find parts to fix it as it's a daily driver.

There is also a place in Scotland (near Ayr) that has a hill a bit steeper than this one and does actually work - that one is no con as we tried it.

I had to make a special tiny spanner just to be able to get the rear most coil pack bolts off, how did you reach the bolts at the back of the heads

Once you have taken all the bits n pieces off the top its fairly easy....

C/ The only way to remove a 4th Gen head is to remove the engine first, this requires the complete front subframe, suspension and steering to be dropped using a 2 post hoist.
Even at cheap £65 per hour labour rates, this is going to cost you £1k+ just to get the engine out.

Nope!.  We've just done a head gasket (both sides) on a 4th gen with the engine in situ!  Might be the LT1 and not like your LS1 but no reason why the LS1 can't be done in situ as well.

Whilst dropping the subframe, suspension and steering is the factory method we have also seen an LT1 pulled from the top

A girl I work with is selling a generator which I thought you guys n gals might be interested for those days when you go to car shows for the weekends ;)

It's a Kipor IG 2000 Silent Petrol Generator and I have managed to find a link to it here http://kipor.com/prouducts_detail.asp?info_id=87. It has only been used for a maximum of an hour, so still fairly new.

She is looking for around £300 but is open to sensible offers.

If you are interested then please contact me via pm and I will forward your interest on to her.

Thanks

We bought these about 4 years ago http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OXFORD-OXIMISER-600-UK-12V-BATTERY-CHARGER-OPTIMISER-/380263206975?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item588974103f#ht_2700wt_1199

So far absolutely no problems and the Trans Am is in the garage for 6 months at a time over the winter.

Boo hoo - no South African marmite.

When we went in '93 to see "in-laws" we bought back stacks of marmite.  Everytime they came here or family went there we always had some brought back.  Since they've been back here permanently we don't get it anymore :(

It tastes so much different to ours and is lovely!!

Have you tried removing and cleaning the EGR Ian?

Hmm not as yet (bugger to get to as im sure you know!) but would that really cause the symptoms?

Difficult to say Ian, but a stuck or faulty EGR could easily cause the engine to stumble and die at idle and also cough whilst driving as we found out with our first Astro!  It's not that hard to get to and probably worth a look just to eliminate.
