You used to only be able to upload GDocs files and PDF. You can now put whatever you want on there and share with others like a cloud ftp... All in preperation for Google's Chrome OS where you don't use a harddisk - you use your online cloud..

So if me and Hardrock were in business (Maybe selling shady undies or something) and I wanted to:

A : Show him the latest sales figures,

+

B : Save them for a presentation later in the week for other clients

we could upload them here, giving him access and me access for the presentation? Without the use of say, memory sticks, is that it?

How secure is it? Would Hardrock not need to know my log-in details to Google giving him then access to my e-mails?

Well in that scenario I'd say dropbox is a better alternative, as with that if you're worried about security then you can specify exact email access to the files online.

I imagine you can set who you are sharing each document with.

Apple have offered online storage for years, these days they call it MobileMe, before that it was called .Mac and before that it was called iTools I think...

Google Docs would improve on that if you were able to edit the spreadsheets and word docs you uploaded using their browser based apps.

I use the MobileMe service and can even access the files form my iPhone. Having said that, MobileMe is pretty expensive at about £70 per year (I think). but of course its more than just online file storage, it synchronises all your computers and phones, gives you web site space, IMAP email and so on. All things you can accomplish using various free services or with paid apps, but of course, it's easy to use...

It's £59 each licence per year or £89 for family pack - I just bought myself an iphone and as hubby already had MobileMe and is in the first 6 months of the yearly licence only cost me £20 to upgrade to family pack.

Fantastic piece of a package and like you say - it works!

Right,

If I wanted to share a Excel file with Gator but no one else, I can upload it to Gdocs and it can be converted to a Gdocs format where Gator can edit it online whilst I watch him do it.

If I did not want anyone else BUT Gator to view my file, I would lock the sheet so Gator had to login to see the data, even if he shared the link, he would also have to share his email password etc for the new person to log in.

Yeah, had a look at that, seems great, especially essentially an online Time Machine. I haven't used it yet.

Google give you 20GB of storage for $5 a year

Uber uber cheap. You get 1GB free though and of course 8GB mail and picassa.

sorry, but slipped into hearing that M&S advert halfway through that.

Online storage is only ever really secure as your password. No doubt it won't be long before the google haters will be along saying they're coming your dirty grundies sales figures for information.

Currently use Rapidshare, for.....Aheeerrrrm. Similar things.

Six Euro's a month or 60 for the year.
