Finally a reasonable update on the "extension" . . . .

I've totally demolished the old "lean-to" floor (this was a 7"-2" concrete slab over very uneven 2" paving-slabs) . . and, thanks to Ian, have got rid of all the rubble.

Next job is levelling the earth below, ready for the new timber-framed "mezz" floor.

I need 195mm clearance below floor level all-over and it's not that far off already.
I shifted around 16 buckets out last night . . . the plan is to finish levelling on friday so I can start planning the frame-work.

Funny you should say that, actually as most of the old floor DID actually have to go to the tip because I've run out of space to dump any large chunks, now.

UPDATE :

Progress is good on the "extension" . . . .

The floor is now levelled and quite smooth . . . I've also now added timber shuttering to create chambers in which concrete will be poured, forming a flat, level base on which further timbers will be fixed to raise the floor level enough to add insulation below the deck.

The cement mixer is booked for collection on friday, the calculations are done - I'll be ordering the Balast and cement tonight.

Pictures to follow - when I have time.

UPDATE (still no pictures . . . . )

The concrete has been poured and the floor levelled. (I've got a pic of that to follow).

Currently the 250um DPM is down, too, and the "subframe" timbers are mainly down also.

In between the timbers I've fitted most of the 50mm polystyrene insulation as well . . . .

Tonights job is to finish the timbers, trim the DPM and finish fitting the insulation to the floor.

Then I'm ready for the main deck.

Thanks to all those who've assisted over the last few days - mainly Fubes and Ian for their efforts on Saturday and Titsy for his brief help on Monday.

All done !

Also fitted some left-over polystrene ceiling tiles I found to parts of the ceiling (they'll be hidden but I though any extra insulation is a bonus) and then I had a major sweep-up in preparation for starting on the main deck tonight.

Going out to dinner . . . So some brief comments . . . . .

The old, partial, concrete slab removed and the ground levelled . . ish . . .

The new slab laid - note timbers to provide fixing for upper deck . . .

DPM laid and timber mostly fixed - some insulation also fitted . . .

Timber and insulation fully fitted.

Main deck finished, All insulation in walls also finished . . .

Looks sweet man!

In true builder fashion, using the walls for those all important calculations too!

The pace of progress has been fairly fast with this . . . the new support bracket for the loaded beam has been fitted and is now doing its job . . . .  the "long" wall is now entirely framed, insulated (with 50mm polystyrene) and plasterboarded.

Next job is to lower the ceiling in "the old section" (ie. install new frame for lower ceiling) and then fit plumbing for front and rear outside taps, fit cables for new lights and sockets and then fit the complete, new ceiling . . . .

(Nearly) all go . . . !

Some pictures of the long wall . . . .

Mid framing - part framed, part insulated, part plasterboarded - note bracket (just visable - acro prop still in place)

Same shot - later on - fully framed, fully insulated, just the final plasterboards to go on . . . (note notches along top edges for roof supports - these will be hidden when the ceiling is lowered).

Thought I'd add an update - although this will lack in pictures as I haven't had the time to pull them off my camera . . . .

The new sub-ceiling frame is in and complete - this now means that the entire ceiling is on the same level ( at about 7' ).

This was done for three reasons:

Firstly - it looks tidier also 7' is high enough and it's less wasted space to heat in winter.

Secondly - the old ceiling in the original section had to be cut in places to expose the old wiring AND got covered in brick dust during the modifications to the brickwork.

Thirdly - It made it ALOT easier to run the wiring for the new lighting set-up and the plumbing for the new sink and outside taps to front and rear.

So that bit is done and waiting on said wiring and plumbing . . . . . .

The wiring is also nearly done - in fact the lighting side was finished last night - I now have three lights down each side and one on a separate switch above where the bench will go.

The plumbing is also progressing . . . the "Hot" run was put in and finished as far as I could go (without a sink) and I'll crack on with the "Cold" run tonight (this is already about 50% done).
I'm hoping to get the front outside tap installed tonight as that accounts for a fair chunk of the remaining cold plumbing.

Hopefully by the weekend ALL the wiring and plumbing will be done ready for some more plasterboarding.

Mega thanks to Ian for general assistance and project management on the wiring side of things.
