Re-did a 0-60 test though, and with the traction I shaved it down from 6.70s to 6.44s.....

You don't think that had something to do with the mpg

Hee-Hee - Drive it like you stole it   Tisy does

I'd be shocked if 100 metres of WOT driving over a 200mile MPG measurement made that much difference....

Probally right !

Having competed twice in the round Britain Fuel economy race the easiest way to get extra mpg is anticipation

Read the road ahead and ease off the throttle as soon as you can see you are going to have to slow down or stop.

Example : When coming up to a roundabout if there are cars already stopped at the roundabout , off the throttle becuase it's more than likely you'll have to stop too.
If the lights have just changed to red - same again.

The best part is you don't even have to drive slowly just anticipate

Edit : Current average 27.08mpg.

Have another piece of this puzzle.....

While giving the engine bay a once over this evening I decided to have a quick gander at the HT's that plug ends... The previous owner said they's been changed so i figured i'd give it a look and if they looked clean i'd believe him..... Well sure enough they looked new enough, but while pushing the lead I'd pulled off back on something didn't feel right....

Sure enough the plug I was cheacking wasn't even finger tight....

Guess they guys motto was "If thereis a difficult job to be done, then make a balls of it..."

Now i'm going to have to spend probably all of Saturday checking all the plugs... I's an arse of a job, but needs to be done right....

OK.... Spent 6 hours working on the 'maro today, and all I can say is that GM suck when it comes to designing cars for maintainence!!!!

Out of the 8 plugs I have so far only been able to get a ratchet onto 6.... Out of those six, 3 fer finger tight and showed signs of blow-by on the threads, and 1 was so loose you could rock it side to side....

I can't physically get a tool onto the remaining plugs without (for the rear drivers side) getting the front end of the car up on stands, which I couldn't do safely with the stands I had 'cause they were to tall, and (for the front passenger side) removing the alternator.....

The bad news is that while the plugs looked reasonable, they were not the platinum plugs that they are supposed to be so that they only have to be changed every 50k miles..... So I'm probably going to have to do the whole job over.....

At lease I have a bit more confidence that it's not going to die on me again, and it sounded noticeably different when I ran it and reved it up...

Way to go matey, if your gonna get new plugs i would go for the iridium ones over the platinum

Did you try and get a flexable extension to tighten the 2 you couldnt get at? If you bring it over next weeknd you can try the ones i have

Well the camaro Z28 uses the same plug as chris's mustang if you go for the NGK iridium ones. They run about $7 each and shouldnt be to expensive to ship from the USA. You can get them at any parts store so you could ask carl

Pictures fine for me ?

Blowing out of the plug threads has got to be costing a few mpg, makes you wonder what sort of maintenance program the car had ?

I'd blame the bloke who bought it

Yeah, looked about the same..... Will pick up a bottle tomorrow on my way home in the Focus and top it up..... Just have to keep an eye on it and see how it goes....

If it looses a lot then I’ll go back to wheels in motion and get them to take a look… Other than that, I have to change the fluid after 1000 miles anyway, so I’ll put on a cork gasket and have a good clean-up then….

As I said today even a slight leak from the pan gasket will cover the bottom of the oil pan becuase the normal fill level is above the gasket joint.
Just for info the pan bolts are only tighten up to 8ft lb which is about finger tight
The GM Filter & gasket set part No.24200796 is £47.54 but about £25 from USless Automotive.
You won't enjoy changing the filter washer, it makes spark plug look like a doddle
Oh and the best gasket sealer I've used on the pan is Hermite Silicone Gold.

I don't know if the 4L60E (either version!) is the same as the 700R4 but if there's a little indentation in the gasket on one side of the Pan this matches up to a very small hole on mine very close to the gasket line.  Be very very careful with the sealant stuff not to block this hole up because (on the 700R4 anyway) this is an oil vent hole for the overdrive gear.  If its significantly blocked it will cause the gearbox to try and select 2nd & 4th at the same time and, according to the guy at GM Automatics when I had my box rebuilt it takes about 30 miles to destroy the entire box, even the case.

No it has a cut away for the hole, which means you don't have to worry about lining up the hole, but the gasket is only half it's width around the cut out
