Questions and Queries / GiffGiff
« on: December 10, 2012, 07:18:54 pm »
Anyone used them? Think you mentioned being with them Andy?

I'm looking to change my provider we only get Vodafone or o2 at work, I know GiffGaff use o2 so works fine but the deals seem a bit too good to be true and the forum is full of complaints...though I know that isn't unusual for mobile phone forums the lack of customer call centre concerns me a little.

Questions and Queries / What's the word on TV's these days?
« on: November 07, 2012, 02:28:39 pm »
I've not personally bought a TV for...well about a decade!

We're looking at a ~50" as the sofa is  about a mile away from the wall we want to put it on...ok slight exaggeration but I need opera glasses to read the menu on 32" we have now and neither it or the sofa are as far back against the walls as the new one's will be.

Anyway I been researching and come up with these;
http://www.johnlewis.com/231559097/Product.aspx

http://www.johnlewis.com/231567747/Product.aspx

From what I've read, at our budget, Plasma gives the best picture for TV's in 50" range..

Not spending more than a grand, don't really give a crap about 3D and doesn't have to be all that "smart" as the TiVo box does all that.
DNLA would be nice though.

Questions and Queries / Flashing glow plug light
« on: September 03, 2012, 07:07:14 am »
Ok new problem...saying that the clutch noise hasn't come back..yet...

..Anyway just before I got on the M1 this morning the Glow Plug light started flashing and there was a slight loss of power, Limp home mode I'm assuming.
This continued for the rest of the journey.

Some quick Google searches suggest anything from replacing the Crank Position sensor or cleaning the EGR valve to new fuel pump and injectors (expensive!).

Any ideas?
I'll certainly be taking the EGR Valve off tonight as I looks like the easiest fix.

Questions and Queries / Clutch noise..
« on: August 28, 2012, 08:04:27 am »
Over the last couple of weeks or so I've been getting an intermittent squeal (a bit like a seized brake, pretty certain it's not the brakes) when I pull away in first.
The noise stops as soon as the clutch is fully engaged, so far only in the mornings but not when completely cold.
Other than the noise the clutch is working fine, no slippage, judder or unusual noise/rattle when depressed or fully engaged.

Any ideas?

Questions and Queries / Car cover
« on: August 08, 2012, 07:07:52 am »
Can anyone recommend a good but reasonably priced outdoor car cover?

The Mustang will be out of the garage for a couple more months, not normally a problem as I've never stored her in a garage before. Unfortunately where she's sat she get covered in copious amounts of moss and crap (probably from the neighbours gutters).

I rinse her off every couple of weeks but during one of those rinsing sessions last weekend I notice a couple of spots of damaged (flaky) paint.  It looks like a chemical reaction probably from bird shit infused moss..
Rather pissed off but these thing happen.

I've had a couple of covers in the past for the Plymouth but they tended to store water and weathered very quickly.
At the end of the day the car is in a fairly sheltered driveway and will go in the garage over winter, she's also not really that old so not too worried about rust.
Also she's not that big, smaller than the Mondeo...Any recommendations?

Also as a side note, does anyone know if chips-a-way (or similar) would repair something like that? Two spots, less than 10p in diameter.

General Banter / Which Drill/Driver
« on: May 28, 2012, 11:40:39 am »
Looking at getting a drill / driver and I can't decide between

The Makita 8391DWPE 18V Combi Drill

or the DeWALT 18v Combi Drill for £10 more

I know CP worked for Makita and RK had/has a DeWalt....

Or any other recommendations £100 is my limit.
