...and shrinking it down to a size that I can put on the website?

I took some in car footage at the weekend with a Sony digital video camera; its only about a minute long buts its 1.4gb in size. How do you shrink it down?, what software is best to use etc

raw incompressed .dv footage straight off the camera is about 1GB per minute.

You need to save or "export" it in a more useful format such as mpeg2, mpeg4 (makes even smaller files with no loss of quality) or h264.  Or you could export to wmv (windows media format but I'd go with the mpeg ones if you have the option)

The software you used to download the footage (which probably came with your camcorder?) should let you save or export to one of these formats.

If you are planning on uploading it to the internet for people to watch I'd suggest your export it to a resolution of about 320x240 ish (people can always maximise the playback window if they want it full screen) and if asked set the maximum or average bitrate to 1.0Mbps (which is 1024kbs).

That should get your footage down to a more useful 15MB or so I would have thought.
