Quoting: Roadkill
Because the RATM song was crap not appropriate.
I'll admit 2% that the RATM song was inappropriate at xmas simply becuase of the language (young kids, presents etc), however, the song was specifically chosen becuase it achieved:
Quoting: Roadkill
It beats any polished pop-crap Simon Cowell has to offer
The lyrics of the song and the actual band themselves stood against the conformist and traditional music industry model (as well as other political agendas).
What better band, what better song than RATM - 'Killing in the Name" (also references to current wars etc) to choose to tell the music industry that
now the people control it and not the other way around. It was also a massive milestone and proof of concept of the the power of the internet and social networking. It really reinforces the message that the music (and movie) industry needs to change to embrase technology instead of holding people back in the 80s - so sharing through means of watermarking etc (but that's another topic).
Point is, I think we all made our point, I doubt this would work again, but I would be impressed if it does.
btw, I think surf-n-bird is rubbish, but if this was the
first attempt to set a precident against the music industry, I would see past the fact if I liked the song or not and just focus on the message and point of it all.
