Samsung 40" LE40B550

http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/8986434/Samsung-Series-5-550-40-LE40B550-HD-1080p-Freeview-LCD-TV/Product.html

Samsung Blu-Ray BD-P4600

http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/9564881/Samsung-BD-P4600-Blu-ray-Player/Product.html

Seems like a good price for both at £688 ?

Reviews on both seem very good but I know very little when it comes to these things . . . am looking to purchase within the next month.

we have a 42'' samsung,

gr8 with a good pic, especially with dvds thru hdmi...

had a problem with the reciever card in it,but they solved it at home,10 mins to fix with a new card]
samsung send out an engineer, with the parts for your tv ,based on the seriel number,...
the engineer said that samsung are the only ones who did this,if it was another make it would have been in the back of his van....

its been ok for the last 3 years +

and it them days it was twice that price....

I bought a Sony but it was a toss up between that or a Samsung.  Wouldn't have gone for anything else...

You could save a little more and buy the older version from Richer Sounds.....

Samsung make excellent LCDs. I have a 22" Sam monitor and my girlfriend has a 32" TV - both are uber crisp.

My Dad has an LG that has screen burn and pixels dropped, I wouldn't recommend them.

I would get a PS3 plus a cheaper Sam without a BR player.

Then you have a TV, BR player, Freeview, internet browser, gaming, integrated iPlayer into PS3 menu - watch whenever you want - scalled to your TV - brilliant. Works with TV Shack too

1080 24p Real Movie - Thats a good start, means it displays the actual 24fps picture signal that comes from the Blu-ray player rather than adapting it to fit 50, 60 or 100Hz by duplicating the odd frame which can result in 'image stutter'

Knowing where you'll be putting it with it getting walked past all the time an LED TV might be better because they are a LOT thinner, downside is they are a fair bit pricier. They also use less Electric

The only newer addition I can see that is not on that TV is DLNA Compatability, i.e. it has a Cat5 Network port on it for accessing media stored on your PC, but that may not be an issue for you.

I have a 42" Samsung LCD, Hate it. It isn't old, it is a flat screen BUT it is 50hz, which means the picture quality is mediocre and changing between HDMI's is slow and un-responsive (Not to do with it being 50hz mind, just because it is a Samsung.)

In reality, it doesn't matter what brand it is so long as it has the following:-

*100hz (refresh rate = 100 times per second) - (Unsure what 600hz 'subfield' means on the play.com link?!.... this makes me wonder whether the real refresh rate is on;y 50hz as 600hz isn't available afaik)

*500,000-1 colour ratio (play.com link shows no colour ratio, not a good sign)

*1080p full HD - play.com link does have this

As for blu-ray - PS3 is the only option IMO, Hold their value better and are just as easy to work

I know - I can't quite justify the extra, though.

The idea behind the Blu-Ray player was simply because it was wall-mountable . . . . . yeah - that simple.  I feel like such a girl.

I've got that very bluray player model in the bedroom linked upto a 23" Samsung Freeview lcd and Sky+. It does what it says on the tin, very nice bit of kit IMO. I also liked the wall mountable option; the disc feeds in from the right hand side.

Being both samsung you only need to play with the one remote - the bluray one - to operate everything which I like. I paid a bit more for mine, I think £189 back in early december. Easy to use and better than my more expensive Sharp blueray in the living room

Good picture quality once you get the angle of the telly right; because mine is sitting on a tall tv unit about 5' off the floor its sometimes difficult to get a clear picture when lying in bed but in a normal living room layout it should be fine.

I was tempted to try out the wifi but you have to buy the dedicated samsung dongle which is naughtily expensive.

As soon as you know mate, throw it up here and dependent on model, i would say it would be a good option money wise as I feel RK may get a better deal there.

I've never been impressed with Sony's (physical) build quality . . .

Let me know the model Number when you get it and I'll have a look.

depends on the model.... the lower range models are built worse than my Samsung, the top end models are very well made

The sound and picture quality won't be affected as the drive is the same drive as installed in the Blu-Ray players.... the only thing that would alter this is if you use a scart instead of a HDMI into the TV, But that would be daft
