in our quest to produce some true scrumpy cider we had a couple of hours killing fruit.....

some one has lent me an orchard....

the home made press.. [it has since, been adapted for the next session],

lightly smash some apples...

load the press

apply  pressure... with two scissor jacks....

the extracted juice....

just 5 gallons...

this was a trial session , the 5 gallons have had yeast added and its busy fermenting....

we also have a tree full of plums, and two pear trees that are loaded with fruit.....

Ha great!

I'm not a cider drinker, but Brother's Toffee Apple cider is nice! Stick some toffee in there too

Question. How come that colour is different from the 'not-from-consentrate' apple juice I drank this morning, yet those are obviously fresh?

the juice is cloudy as it has a fair bit of pulp in it, tastes gr8....
it also oxidizes in contact with the air,,as apples do,

but will clear a lot when fermented, so im told,

it is much like a freshly squeezed orange juice i suppose,

id imagine the stuff in cartons which ive used for makin cider is filtered and treated to make it clearer...

I'm a Guinness and proper beer / ale kinda guy, but that toffee apple cider is like cat nip - I could drink A LOT of that

This may help you find some if you can't - although most proper off-licences and pubs should do it now, it's been out all summer.

our second apple pressing last weekend,

half of the apples we pressed..

apply pressure

juice flowing, thru improved press....

5 gallons of sugary apple juice, hydro reading of 1050

after 24 hrs juice was dropped into another f/v to aid airation

yeast starter made 24 hrs earlier,

nice and foamy....

pop it in corner, to ferment at room temp with its coat on...

thats ten gallons of apple juice we have fermenting,.....
