Projects / Truck Exhaust - sorted (hoepfully!)
« on: December 06, 2009, 02:39:30 pm »
Rather a late update bet meh so what loL!

As most of you will know the GMC exhaust came apart in hastings (yes that long ago!) where me & Dean had rejoined it from sorting the cat out.

Well after several re-try's at just clamping it and failing (the last one being when we were moving!) i finally ended up buying a 3" pipe joiner (from Jetix - thanks dean for heads up) and 2 X think band clamps (from ebay) and a couple of week ago, i got under the truck, took all the old parts off, ground the old cement away and cleaned the exhaust up and fitting new parts...

End result is this:

Should work alot beter as before when we clamped it - the exhaust was trying to pull apart - now due to the joining piece, it is puishing itself together [img]http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/up.gif" alt="" border="0" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" class="bbc_img" />

Projects / GMC Van mini Update
« on: October 06, 2009, 08:38:19 am »
Well  been doing a few bits n bobs to the truck since last update...

Its now had New ball joints, new inner & outer track rod ends and new idler arms both sides.

As per the last update, myself and dean had replaced the shoes, drums & springs within the rear brakes but as most of you will already now they were binding / grabbing on one side and also rubbing constantly on the other.

Well over the past couple of weeks (since hastings!) me / dean have replaced the slave cyclinders in the rear drums and once i had changed the whole of the brake fluid (it was trully 'orrible) all the rear and front brakes are working spot on now - no binding / snatching or rubbing at all

Whilst under the truck I investigated the noise coming from the rear diff - well to start with the fluid in there was like treacle - black and gooey....  then i found a load of swarf on the magnet as well, not looking good....

After completly cleaning the diff cover, magnet, gears and bottom of the diff i found that some of the teeth on the 4 little gears are worn / missing bits - the main drive one is fine .... checked on a few specialist van forums and ideally need replacing but will be ok to use so long as good quality heavy oil put back in - which i have since done and i must say it druives fine, very very little noise now so all looks good

Oh yeah and i have now (hopefulyl) done a long term / medium term repair on teh exhaust join (it kept coming apart after the hastings trip!) - it now has fire engine grade joiners and bonding cement on it (the joys of a father in law thats a fire engine mechanic!)

So all back on the road, and 99% of problems sorted - just need to change the coil over and clean the plugs up to finally get rid of that damned misfire!!!

Important Announcements / Donations to MKB for bits...
« on: August 10, 2009, 02:48:47 pm »
Recently there have been a few purchases made for MKB 'stuff' that has used up the remaining funds and also a bit more on top!!

The purchases made have been:
 - Stickers - 100 small and 15 large ones
 - Flyers - 1000 (should be here by this weekend)

Adding up the cost of the 2 items together comes to a total of just under £150-00.

There was £51 in the "MKB Pot" which was used towards the cost of the flyers,  adding in donations already received leaves a total of just over £50-00 owing to myself and dean (i paid for stickers, dean for flyers).

What i would ask is that if you feel able / willing to make a donation towards the recent expenses, then please either use the paypal button in the top right of the screen or PM me for alternative methods.

Any funds would be very gratefully received.

Thanks.
