Oh Deer

Dam wildlife, I vapourised a Pheasant a few ago in the Camaro, it was a really loud impact but luckily no damage, just blood guts and an engine bay full of feathers

Have you got protected no claims ?

No, I don't think I'll do it through the insurance, I'll take this one on the chin. Having had a look this morning, the black lower grill is borked, the lower rim of the bumper that goes underneath it is split in two, rads have been pushed back and sliced in two. Can't see any other damage, although I reckon the A/C maybe knackered as the condensor is piggy backed onto it.

Went back this morning to see if there were any salvageable parts, the deer is sat at the side of the road. Rang the 101 non-emergency police number who took my details, said there's nothing else by law I have to do, they will contact the local authority to either dispatch it or pick it up.

Still absolutely gutted though.

Well just had the RSPCA on the phone, they were rung by the police, she said she couldn't see it, told her were it was and when she found it she pretty much said no hope for it, both rear legs pretty much ruined.

So not a great day so far.

Got the thing up on a jack tonight with a light under it. It looks bad but I reckon its not as bad as I first thought.

Rad and condensor definitely borked, just a case of whether any of the piping to the condensor is knackered as well. Touch wood its not.

The radiator sits behind the condensor (as I was told its a bit sacrificial for stones and debris) the condensor is split across the middle and I guess the radiator is the same, either that or its lost its pipe.

Entry hole

Radiator, condensor and fan assembly moved back into the engine bay.

It got as far as here before busting out through the front undertray.

Lucky it wasn't a Badger - they really make a mess of your car from what I've heard !

Pity about the deer, though - going by your posts the poor f*cker was laying by the side of the road for hours with smashed up legs !

At least he won't be doing that again !

Yeah, doesn't make me feel great if I'm honest, but I couldn't see it when I went back after stopping, I assumed the thing had got away.

I clipped a deer, once.

Blind corner on a country road, managed to brake but hit him at about 15mph.
Like you I couldn't see it afterwards and assumed - as there was no damage to the car - that there wouldn't have been any damage to the deer !

The garage got it up on the ramps this evening to get a low down.

Things that are fooked:

Radiator
A/C Condensor
Fan shroud + Fan
Oil Pressure sensor
Reverse light switch
Undertray*
Front grill*
Coolant
A/C Refrigerant

The bumper although split i reckon is more than repairable and rather than replacing it, I'll just repair it.

*will be replacing and fitting myself.

Under tray and grill ordered.

Under tray was £40 and the grill was £20, not too bad. The tray isn't imperative but it does offer some protection to the lower parts of the rads. Grill is properly fooked. Amazed how it all crumbled up.

Good you are slowly repairing the damage

BUT, this is what would have happened if you hit it at 70mph:

Jesus christ! No I definitely wasn't that unfortunate!

Got it back last night, really impressed with my local indy, would recommend them hands down for the turn around.

Fan unit from Ford was the bit that held them up, but was still shipped same day. Because we do a lot of handy work for them in terms of getting out broken taps and the like he did a really good deal all the labour and gave me all the parts at trade/cost price. He basically only charged me his hourly rate.

Nevertheless...

My Grill turned up today though too...

Ouch just what you don't need at this time of year

With a number plate like that are you sure it wasn't a Kangeroo you hit

On the plus side your air con has a good re-charge and you have fresh anti-freeze

Had a day off today, got a bit bored, thought I'd spruce up the engine bay...

Then add a little paint...

Given me a little more confidence in painting, next is taking on the rear boot deck of the camaro...

Yep, and the battery cover and possibly the plastic bulge bit above the grille.

I have seen people paint the grills in gloss black, giving the front end a much sharper look. Just trying to decide if I can be bothered to risk knackering the anti-theft bonnet lock again.
