Where is good to look for a car Jack?

I was going to get a 3 ton one from Machine Mart for 80 odd quid but they have them out of stock for a while and Im wondering if there is anyone else worth looking at?

CostCo in MK have stopped selling that jack - they do an ally one instead - but it can only lift 1600kg or something . . .

Were you after the 3ton low lift then?

I have one that I've only used a couple of times so far, but it's bloody heavy to move... the Ali one I could lift by myself with ease in costco, and to be fair, 1600kg is a whole Camaro just about...

My actually weighs 1680kg, I weighed it on our DOT weighbridge

:H&S Hat on:  I would not try lifting it using anyhting less that a 2 ton rating

OK, but if you are lifting say the front of the car, and say the weight distribution is 60:40 to the front, that's just a good crap over a ton, so you'd be well within the rating...

Being Certified in Lifting and Slinging I'd like to point out to Mr H&S that all approved lifting equipment has at least a 75% (normally 100%) saftey factor.

So that 1600kg actually equals a max load more like 2800kg.

Plus, when jacking, you never pick up the whole weight of the car at once.

True but my existing heavy duty 2 ton jack really struggles to lift both front wheels off the ground, I want to be just able to pump it up without any problem, whilsy also knowing I've got a good factor of safety

There's probably an issue with the jack, then.

The built-in saftey factor not enough, eh ?

Durr.

I ain't that stupid !

When I visit the site I view a topic . . . when I click "MKB Forums" to go back to the main page it updates ONCE.
If I view another topic and do the same I get the same result as the first.

If I close the browser then immediately come back - same result.

If I close it and come back, say 10-15minutes later then it's new again.

Mainly the fact that I bought it on 28th Sept 1992 for £29.99 and it's been very well used since then
