Having some troubles removing the old pitman arm from the old steering box.

I've got the nut and washer off but the arm don't wanna budge.

I've applied heat (lots of) and also tried heating and rapidly cooling the spindle section in order to break them free - no joy.

Have tried WD40.  Still no joy.

Have bashed the living $hit out of it - No joy - but I felt a little better.

Have left it for now soaked in WD40 but I need to get them separated ASAP.

I don't have a pulley-puller . . . reckon this'd work ???

P.S - replacements seem hard to come by.

Well its a tapered splined shaft mate so you might need to get it on a bench press

There's a specific puller to remove them.  I think you can get one from halfords?

Hmm . . . Seems that in the US they have a special puller for this . . . . In the U.K, however we seem to prefer using a good old fashioned pickle fork !

I'll try that next . . .

When I get back on Sunday I'm gonna "give it some" with the 4-pounder and the pickle fork.

O.K - No-go.

The pickle fork is too small for the splined spindles' "girth" (Ooo-er).

So I need a Pulley-puller.

ANYONE ???

O.K.

I brought a brand new heavy duty Pulley puller.

And completely destroyed it trying to get the F*cking pitman arm off !

but at the same time.

The spindle on the box was also, by now, knackered so I thought "F*ck it, I'll cut it off" !

3 minutes later I'd cut the end of the spindle off, still with the arm attached.

I'm hoping now it's more managable that I can get it under a fly press and get the F*cker free.

Had the same issues with a rear wiper arm recently, actually cut right through the arm parallel with the taper and it still wouldn't budge
The arm was aluminium and so was the tapered spindle and they had fused together
When I hammered a small chisel into the cut half the arm around the spindle broke off, but half stayed fused to the dam spindle
Eventually got the last half off by using mole grips and a piece of plate to protect the exposed part of the spindle !
I ended up with a cut mark right across the taper spindle but it really didn't do any harm.

NB : This was whilst it was still attached to the vehicle.

Yup, Cheers, PhilO.

I've already scrubbed it and cleaned it.  It's also seen a coat of primer, too.

I'll call this thread closed.
