Jamie, where did you get that wiring kit for your headlights from that we were talking about at the meet?

I've decided that a full HID conversion is a bit pricey atm (+ confusing! so many types!) so am going to try & sort my lights out with normal bulbs.

Which leads onto my next Q of what type of bulbs it uses...

The kit came from Classic Industries, but was part of a larger order (I wouldn't buy cheap items individually as they add an international fee)

You might be able to find a similar one over here from somewhere like Carnosuer(sp!) or similar.

Failing that, I know where we can buy all the components to make a custom fit version, probably for less than £40.

The bulbs are standard halogen H4's - they have 3 prongs on the back.

Is that for both the High and Low beam lights?

I was asking because I saw one on a UK based website recently that was identical & I couldn't remember where it was  + its a good idea as it uses relays doesn't it? which means less wiring between the battery & the bulbs.

The H4 bulb has a high and low element yes.

The relay kit is a good idea for 2 reasons  :-
- it stops the high current from the halogen bulbs going through the switch (and potentially damaging it or the wires)
- as you say, it shortens the wire distance, resulting in less power loss = brighter lights

I couln't find a kit at the site that Graeme has given above, but having a look elsewhere.

well my lamps are separate so would it need separate bulbs?

is there a way to wire them up so that all 4 lamps are on at Low Beam & when Hi-Beam is selected the inner 2 switch to "Blinding mode"?

what you could do is HID the outers with high and low and then the inners could be auxilary driving lamps with standard halogen lamps. Wouldnt take much wiring

That's the company I was talking about that can supply all the parts.

The kit you show does a pair of lights, but just the basic 2 prong ones.

We need to know exactly what bulbs you have at the moment before making any real suggestions.

As far as what you want - anything is possible.

I totally understand the factor but can't justify the expenditure right now
On that subject whats the difference between the set at the top of this page at a whopping $1,218.33  and the set at the bottom at a more reasonable (but still too much) $597?

http://www.brightheadlights-hid.com/Headlights-x4656.htm

They both replace all 4 Lamps so whats to justify the more than doubling of cost?

I'm not completely familiar with HID or the blue light, but you can get Xenon replacements for th H4 (and possibly others) that have a slight colour to them.  Mine are blue, but give a whiter light.

the top ones are projector lamps mate, they give a more focused concentration of light than the other setup.

That other site has a single lamp conversion for £299

Ditto m8, but I don't think I can really afford it at this point in time.
ATM I only want them to work properly over winter & at the moment they couldn't light up hedgehog let alone the whole road.

Do you need to go the full HID upgrade?

With Xenon bulbs and the relay kit, you should see a marked improvement on what you have.

This is what i'm hoping, as the HIDs are pricey, maybe something for the future

Phil was looking at them on saturday & commented that besides them all being different colours my current Hi-Beams are DIMMER than my low beams! how cr@p is that!

Jamie I can see us having a long conversation about wiring at our next meet, what with this & the starters

What year is your car ryan? as pre 84 you can run what ever wattage lamps you like, just be aware the higher the wattage the more current they will draw so wiring will need to be beefed up
