How do the full beams currently work? I know you have 2 lights each side - What do the outer and inner do when you are on dipped and main currently?

What year is your car ryan? as pre 84 you can run what ever wattage lamps you like, just be aware the higher the wattage the more current they will draw so wiring will need to be beefed up

Didn't know about that rule - means I can go even higher with mine if I wanted.

What are they supposed to be limited to on post '84s?

Currently:

Cr@p Bulbs,
Outer Pair are Low Beam / Normal driving Lights.
Inner Pair are High Beam

+ the DS Low Beam light stays on extra low when the ignition is off. I imagine to be really proper that should be switched to the Passenger Side.

What i'd Like:

Xenon Bulbs,
Both Pairs to be Low Beam / Normal driving Lights

But the inner Pair to switch to Hi-Beam when this is selected. I'd imagine this would require the H4 bulbs you mentioned with the dual filament.

When we looked at your lights as KK, I think we saw that the outers were halogen converted already, but the inner weren't. This would explain why the highs are dimmer than the lows!

What you will probably need to do is get halogen conversion lamps (would think that this might be a stock item at USAutomotive) for the inners. (make sure it's for a dual filament bulb - I know H4's are (and they are also common and easy to get) and it doesn't need the sidelight mod, but it's no big deal if they do, you just don't wire them up.

Next step is then to get Xenon bulbs for inners and outers. Hence needing to know what you have now.

Oh, and fit the relay kit - very important - especially as you are running 4 bulbs.

I'm glad you posted this link G, I didn't know you could get matching sidelights.  Will have to get these as they look crap at the moment - an orange dot in a white headlight.

So something Like this would be needed yeah?

http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/product.php?productid=16320&cat=255&page=1

would these do both the centre Hi/Lows and the outer Low only pair? (just with only 1 filament wired up?  that way with only the Low Beam lights on they would all look the same...?

If you want to stay legal, then yes, that's exactly the sort of bulb to go for. (Bear in mind I don't think the HID would be legal)
Nothing really stopping you going for the 100W bulbs either.

For true equality of light for both inner and outer, the yes you would want exactly the same bulbs in each. If doing that, why not just wire them all to work the same, all high or all low?

The HID's are legal as they are only 55w mate just the quality of light produced is better

An equivalent to these:

You wont find that size lens in the UK as nothing uses it, just been searching. You will have to use the USA ones like you currently have.

I want to know if that will work... Think it will... just a case of finding the correct 2 wires at the switches on the car & then having some fun with solder & heatshrink!

Would a 30A relay not be enough for 2 lights?

I suppose a few more pennies for the sake of being sure isn't a hardship.

I think Graeme was worried that a 30A relay would not be enough for 4 Lights.

Why go all the way back to the switch - you have the low/high output that is easy to find under the bonnet - it goes directly to the bulbs.  Just splice into those.
