If you double the realys it just makes it easier for fault diagnosis also i would fuse after the relays with a smaller fuse than a 30

Why go all the way back to the switch - you have the low/high output that is easy to find under the bonnet - it goes directly to the bulbs. Just splice into those.

Would that not be the full Light power current? is that not too much for the switching current?

But if you're using the old Power feed for the headlights?...

I think thats what Jamie was suggesting...

I see, you could go for the relays with intergrated fuses - looks neater.

no relays pull very little current as it only closes a contact, its the closed contacts that take the full load

The current is dependant on what you are powering - it's the amount something draws. The lights take a lot of power, so will draw more current. Move the same wire to the relay, and there is a massive drop.

On my kit, you simply unplug the wire from the bulb and plug it straight into the relay loom.

What fuse rating would you recommend, bearing in mind with 4 relays each one will be running 2 lights.

There is a way to calcluate the Amps based on the Voltage(12-14ish) and Wattage of the bulbs.  I can look it up, but G may know it.

wattage/voltage= amps

55W/12V=4.5A dim per lamp

60W/12V=5A high per lamp

So would you use 5A fuses, or the next size up?

The calculations are per lamp so min 10A per side but would probably go with a 10A for lows and a 15A for highs

Guys, it doesn't matter if the relays themselves are rated for 40A does it?  as the ones on http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk  are 1/2 the price of the 30A ones

Added up what I need (Including a shedload of excess wiring because you never know when you'll need it!)  total for bits comes to £31 + £44 for the bulbs.  Now just need to find out what the lenses themselves for H4 bulbs cost from US Automotive...

I have loads of wire mate, and no relay size doesnt matter as long as you stay higher than 30A hell could be 100A if its cheap

Did you spot the H4 bulb connectors? Very handy to have.

Is that with or without VAT?

They have a tendency to quote the exclusive price.

I'd imagine Ex VAT

either way its going to be a little wad for the lenses...  don't have to soend the £44 on the bulbs though...
