My list would be:

Who's online
Members List
Moving Replies could be useful
User's Monthly Stats
Signatures
Custom Rankings
Also the "Quotes" solutions which says makes them more "decorative", its a bit hard to see whats quoted as it is at the moment.

Is the avatar file size fixed or can it be increased?
Title: How do you think "Project X" is progressing...
Post by: Jamieg285 on October 18, 2005, 04:21:10 pm
It can be increased - are you talking pic size i.e. 60x60 to 75x75  or file size i.e 100K to 200K
Title: How do you think "Project X" is progressing...
Post by: FUBAR on October 18, 2005, 04:28:54 pm
Picture pixel size is better because then it limits the actual on-screen size of the picture otherwise if someone has a huge pic it will distort the forum pages.  75x75 I think is enough what do you guys reckon?

Title: How do you think "Project X" is progressing...
Post by: 55starchief on October 18, 2005, 04:29:53 pm
both would be nice (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/smirk.gif)
but file size would be better for resolution of real small images
Title: How do you think "Project X" is progressing...
Post by: FUBAR on October 18, 2005, 04:29:57 pm
additional:  file size is only a problem if you're using animated images for avatars, can you set 2 boundaries? i.e. 75x75 pixel & 200kb?
Title: How do you think "Project X" is progressing...
Post by: 55starchief on October 18, 2005, 04:38:26 pm
pixel size is already 65x100  so 100x200 might be better

Jamie, have neen looking through the minibb forum and it seems that smilies are user definable, perhaps when you have some time we could get some smilies more MKB orientated if you get my drift. some of these are a little tame (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/smirk.gif)

Yes, another thing already on the list, but I thought we'd get more important stuff done first.

I've got a HUGE bank of smileys... very cool  Personally I prefer these "normal" sized smileys rather than the bigger ones.

Jamie,

Can you try & figure out why all those smileys came up all big?  I assume its "thumbnailed" them even though they are smaller than the set thumbnail size...
Title: How do you think "Project X" is progressing...
Post by: FUBAR on October 18, 2005, 06:33:23 pm
No worries I sorted it...    if you don't want the images to be thumbnailed remove the 's' from the [imgs] tags at each end of the link... (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif)

That is correct m8, clever innit (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/cool.gif)

so for things like smileys or small piccies use the img tags, but if you're posting lots of pics. or pics of projects, meets etc use the imgs tags to show a gallery of thumbnails

I was hoping this question wasn't going to be asked too soon.

At the moment no - and the makers don't see the point in it (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/confused.gif)

However there is a guy who has done his own hack and I have asked him to send me the details.

Failing that, it's another longer term project for me to work out how to do it.

You can but I don't think that anyother program except Paintshop Pro recognises it as transparent...  i'll investigate when I get home

Ok, I asked a friend who knows about these things & yes you can, they must be saved as.png files & then they can be displayed in internet explorer and it maintains the transparency levels.

I made one to test it but there's Hitch though... I can't host .png files on my Photobucket account so when i've created them all i'll e-mail them over to Jamie

Would the file upload tool for this forum be of use for this? Everyone should be able to use that with ease (not all of us know how to use ftp) for uploading and downloading.  It does cost, but $30 isn't a lot.

Shouldnt need it mate as you can do FTP with internet explorer and if you just want to download add the FTP site as a network place on XP

Yep, I got your email.

Development time is limited to 1-2 hours per night max at the moment. Will get to them though.

I was figuring on the different flavoured ones for each sub-forum, but not sure exactly what to use for the topic icons yet (haven't seen or worked out what options there currently are to replace.)

My same thoughts for the flavoured ones (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/smirk.gif) there's a few to chose from there (16 I think) so plenty of choice  I do think the Orig Glazed one should be added as a smiley too tho :kk:  (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif)

I have looked at the forum icons and we have the following to replace:

Topic empty(i.e. no replies) - empty page
Topic default (i.e. some replies) - full page
'Hot' Topic (i.e. 2+ pages) - full page with +
Locked Topic - full page with circle/slash
Sticky - Page with !
Locked Sticky - Page with ! and circle/slash

Also bear in mind that we might want some variations on each of these to be used to highlight unread posts.

Its ok, by the time its shrunk down to an appropriate size you won't be able to read the text anyway

I was going to say the same thing - and by then - what's the point?

Nice idea though, just don't think it will work.

Actually you should be able to keep the resoloution tight and still drop the physical size making it viewable

you can't drop the size without decreasing the Pixels... thats what will make it illegible

on photoshop you can reduce the canvas size without changing the pixel resolution.

I will try tonight how small does it need to be?

the same size as this:

isn't what you're talking about the same as cropping off the excess white round the edges which is what I did with the KK donut piccies?

On photoshop you can reduce the whole image including white areas by changing the canvas size, not by croping

Ok after messing with that image for an hour i admit i was wrong, even making the resoloution 1200 dpi the image lost it.

However whilst messing around i had another cunning idea for this image, what if we edit it into a MKB logo?

What do you think ryan do able?

There's already a 'hot topic' option, currently it adds a + to the icon.  The hack you show adds another level - 'very hot'

Don't see much point in that really. Most of us just use the recent replies list rather than going into the sub-forums to see the topic icons.

Ok, I've just noticed a glitch with the forum,

The number of times a thread has been viewed doesn't increase if you click on the numbered subsequent pages... if you click on the actual thread title it increases by one. click on 2, 3, 4 or whetever & nothing happens...

or even better than that the last unread post, which knowing this place will be about 3 pages from the end! (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/rofls.gif)

It will be possible, but there's a lot of work involved working out the last unread post to do first. When I get that far, I will be included such a link.

miniBB are working on something that does this, but I'm not sure I like it.

Go to their forums and register. Log in and then go to the minBBox link.  Have a play, see what you think.

Whats going on with the MKB logo? would be nice to have it so that we can start work on the new flash site aswell as revamp this forum. Also we still need to add the gigling part to philo's quote

The flash site has a light purple background, any one have problems with this as it looks pretty hot would also work well on the forum me thinks instead of the white

My one is still pending.  It's the next thing for me to do when I get some more dedicated PC time at home (as opposed to the 10 minutes here and there where I'm doing noddy upgrades).

Thing is, I have no idea when that will be.

I've not had time to have a go either, Graeme, can you e-mail me / Jamie a screen print image of the website so that I can get the colouring for the background.  actual size if poss that way sizing can be judged too.

Good thinking. I was planning my logo based on a black or white background (T-shirts lol), and hadn't considered different colours.

No need to email me it (unless it's changed from the original) as I have the flash template at home already.

Any better?

well it'll blend in that way, either that or make the background transparent so that it'll just overlay whatever's there, actually thats probably a better idea, but mean's i'll have to do all of it in Photoshop which i'm still learning.

I thought PSP dealt with transparencies?

not that i've found, i tried to save the gifs with transparant backgrounds & it didn't work, AFAIK you can only maintain transparancies if you save it in the .psp file which nothing else can read

I know it looks shite at the moment, but it's still an improvement on the miniBB logo.

I will try and clean it up when I have some more time.

Just noticed the mkb logo at the top of the screen looking gooood (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif)

Might have been there ages but I only just noticed it (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/confused.gif)

Jamie,

Logo looks ok, the color of the flash site is #990000

I have swapped the background coloer on the forum with that color and it seems to work ok. Do you know if it is possible to use a image behind the tables of the forum as all i have been able to do is change the color?

The flash site uses a padded purple image that looks cool and i think could look quite nice behind the forum sections

It would give some consitancy to the stle of the whole forum, what do you think?

Is the current logo OK then?

I thought it looked a bit rough (by account of it being shrunk from 800x600 to 150x100 and saved as Gif).  I was going to try and tidy it up, but you guys seem to like the 'rough' look.

Do you mean like that fancy template we found?  I haven't looked into how that works yet.

TBH I'm not keen on the pixellated look.

I have an idea (similar to your's) so I'm going to have a play with photoshop & make up a Neon sign, its just finding the time to do it, which I'm sure you can sympathise with (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/grin.gif):

Thats the one mate, the background color of that template looks nice against the logo, as you say it just needs tidying up, can you email me the original file and i will have a look at it with photshop

The original file is tidy, it's just lost it when shrinking and saving as gif.  It would look better with a fixed background color.

Hopefully I can make something using vectors, that way resizing means losing no quality

2 problems with the background pic:

The template isn't downloading.
and,
I found this on the forums:
As about CSS - remember those users, who are not using Internet Explorer or latest Mozilla. Extended CSS will not work in these browsers. Thus, CSS can be displayed DIFFERENTLY in each browser (specially look at Opera).
