Radiator in the Garage??
« on: April 05, 2010, 09:06:35 pm »
Just about to put a chrome towel-rail radiator in the bathroom which means the current radiator is spare - question is, if I plumb it into the garage, will it cost me more to heat the house?

Reasoning being, the heating has to heat the water and send it around the pipes in the house right? Well, IF the house gets to the specified temperature, the thermostat will switch off the heating as usual.. IF the hot heating water went a bit further and into the garage - would that effect how the house heats up?

I guess it would take the system slightly longer to heat up to temperature?

It would, I think, because it would take longer for the water to circulate the system, thus taking longer to heat up. I think

Wouldn't say you would notice a massive deal though

Insulate the garage a bit more will help too. Those brush things that go at the bottom or sides of garage doors work really well. Look at boarding the roof space and putting insulation on top to keep whatever warm air in.

you might be better with an oil filled electric rad no plumbing easily controlled and i think they are pretty reasonable to run
