I'm starting to get it . . . pity they're not battery powered to be truly wireless . . . I reckon a hefty Li-ion battery would last a while . . .

You only really need the bridge if you can't place a speaker near your existing router, John Lewis were giving them out for free when we bought our Playbar as you don't really need it anymore.   The CONNECT does connect your old skool stuff.. though a pricy option just to connect a iPod imho.

Yeah pretty much, as I've mentioned Bluetooth isn't ideal for streaming high quality audio.  After a very quick bit of research I couldn't find a solution for streaming Jukebox (oldskool iPod) to Sonos that doesn't cost silly money. (Sonos CONNECT)

Sound quality isn't critical . . . the original plan was just to have the thing as an ornament so to get it playing anything would be just awesome .

I've got a Bluetooth wireless speaker somewhere, if you wanted to test something out.

Tis freakin awesome!  I've now got 3x Play:1's a Play:3 and the Playbar..
I can have Teamrock playing over the whole house or any of my music (I've uploaded my entire collection to Google Play Music), or Katie can be listening to Radio 2 upstairs while I'm listening to something else downstairs.  The Playbar works seamlessly with the TV, even passes through the TV remote signals if your bar is blocking the sensor on the TV (like mine is).

I've put the Mustang to bed for the Winter, also treated her to a new battery as couldn't get enough charge in it to start her for the short journey into the garage, been nursing it all year to be fair.  This one actually fits as well!

On the plus side fits with plenty of space.   I will give her a quick wash tomorrow and turn her around so that she's nose to the door, in case there's any issues starting in the spring.

Doesn't specifically mention ipods but does say you can connect mp3 player to the usb port.  Can get an Android app to act as a remote control.. At worst get a large capacity USB drive and jobs a good.

Ah ok, as Ryan says take your iPod / iPhone to the store and try it out (don't forget your cable).  😊

I wasn't talking about a surround sound setup, not sure that's why good for music anyway, just ease of use and a good enough audio...err..range? for music.

Saying that I've set mine up with surround sound   Though it knows when I'm playing music or watching TV.

Yeah basically.  If you're just looking for a satisfying boom when the death star explodes then it should be awesome, if you're looking for a great audio system for music then do a little research.  In not saying the one you've chosen won't do the job, I know nothing about it other than the JL website blurb, but I'd check your 100% happy with it before splashing out. 😊

In my experience Bluetooth streaming isn't all that reliable or convenient.
From what I remember you listen to more music than you watch TV 😉

My question - which the lovely lady in John Lewis couldn't answer - is : Can I plug in a iPod / iPhone into it and play music off that via the USB (or other connection) - when the T.V is not in use ??

Use your phone as the "remote". 

Downside the sound quality may not be as good as using an Aux input though we're not talking premium sound system here so probably be fine.


I went with Sonos but it's rather pricy especially when you start to expand. :-/

I'll take a crate. I do prefer using the barrels but I also like to keep a batch of bottles ready for portability etc,  I don't have quite enough for a full batch though.

wow that's bad...is it 'sellable' or not, if not happy to stick it in our E-Waste pile at work.

Nah just that I've convinced myself it's worth more as component parts but never gotten round to stripping it down.
