WHY HAVE THEY BLURRED OUT EVERYONE ELSE'S NUMBER PLATES AND NOT MINE

probably because it doesn't look like a UK licence plate, and its very recessed causing all white space above the letters to not be visible, that will be done automatically by some sort of character recognition software, the same thing that picks up face shapes & blurrs them all too.

It's a good thing I'm not paranoid . . . . thankfully I couldn't care less.

Because if I'm a criminal I can research the layout of any area from the comfort of my PC in total privacy and look for vulnerable property or materials to steal

Surely the only thing they can see to steal is your car and if they drive to your house and its there then you are probably there ergo they wont break in.  But if they didn't know you had a nice car they could drive down any street in their or any other area and see one without looking even slightly suspicious.  And that view would be up to date...

Just having the luxury of doing it from their PC instead of jumping in their car to look does not make any difference to your actual security or privacy.

Street View was useful yesterday, trying to work out the route for my next holiday.  Location so remote Sat Nav didn't have it and the postcode only got you to a "nearby" farm.

"drove" the rest of the way using street view following the written instructions I had and voilą found it!
Programmed the Sat Nav from that (as close as it will get me anyway).
Should save me some time and hassle on the day.

Obliviously I took note of the cars worth stealing on route as well

Proved itself valuable yesterday to a work colleague.  She had an accident on her motorbike.  She was driving in the bus lane (road signs show the use of the bus lane by motorbikes are allowed) and a guy in a Merc was alongside her and pulled left right in front of her - she's ok but the Merc had a nice big dent in his rear passenger door.  He rant and raved that she was in the wrong but it turns out that thanks to Google Street View we managed to get a picture of the said area (including the road sign) which clearly shows she was in the right

WHY HAVE THEY BLURRED OUT EVERYONE ELSE'S NUMBER PLATES AND NOT MINE !!!??

because using a non standard plate it cannot recognise it as a number plate. thats why the cops hate em, ANPR wont always recognise it either..

for all those paranoid about this, you know you can ask to have your property removed. at least you used to be able too - not checked recently.
and you can easily report unblured things.
 think it's great!

Just checked.  You just click on the 'Report a problem' link, and state your concern with the view in question... easy!

I think you can get your property removed but wouldn't people think you have something to hide ?

Exactly.

It's like blacking out military installations on Google Earth, saves people looking for them by studying the map, just head straight to the black square...
