WTF

And to make it worse BT won't deal with me or Ian because the account is in my Mum's name... who is currently in china

Correct

You can get them online or on ebay... I didn't have a BT spec master socket with the correct filtering/surge protection in Stotfold, so I ordered one and spotted this I-Plate thingy that BT make. It's only really of any use if you have any extensions or multiple phones (inc sky box modems etc) hanging off the same line. It screws onto the BT master socket and gives an extra level of filtering... Not sure if it actually helped any, but sky estimated our speed at a max of 6Mb on a line test when I ordered, and you can see we get much better than that so maybee it did...
