Ha! I had to do the exact same spot in mine! I think water must run down the filler pipe, drip-off there and accumulate. Either that or fuel if you aren't careful when you remove the petrol-pump from the filler-neck

it rusts through from the fuel tank strap fixings under the floor...

the rear valance is a different one to the removable on your early bay,
a different shape where the tinware fits...

Yah, but I've seen people fabricate them for LateBays and Beetles. I presume it's just a case of captive nuts somewhere and bolts

well yes and no....

welded the valance together and tacked it into the bus,
now adding new steel to one of the chassis rails where it meets the rear valance ,
as it had various bits tacked to it and was rotten underneath...[there will be more of that] ...

bought a jk cover for it on egay..£60..

havin a weldin weekend as it looks fine ...

ah ...and planning to add some improved cooling for the engine,

a pair of 2 1/2 pipes coming into the engine bay through the tinware,
from a pair of scoops to be placed under the floor infront of the axle

on the engine

may turn one up into the cooling fan...

as thats my topic on vzi....

Not sure if you know, but Volkshub seems to be where everyone is going now instead of VZi:

http://www.volkshub.com/thehub/forum.php?

I decided to join there today as VZi with its malware warnings have now been blacklisted on the webfilters at work, so I can't browse it anymore.

i went on the hub when it started,

it seems to be full of the wingers from vzi who got in a tizzy when vzi was sold,  for no apparent reason....

looking at the number of users online its

vzi  = 685
v/hub =74
so wheres best to get an answer to a Q

Agree with you, but I can't browse VZi anyway, it's now classed as a malicious site on our webfilter, even if they have fixed it

I've always found VZi to be full of cliques. Someone part of the clique can post something and get full support. Someone new can post something similar and get totally flamed.

I guess the Hub can end up being the same, but there isn't a choice now, it's Hub or nothing

Awesome work dude!

Sounds good!

I like the colour choice for the doghouse, I was going to paint mine a light colour, white or possibly a brown

I assume it would make it a bit lighter in the reasonably dark and small engine bay under that hatch.

The test rig you have made up is brilliant, the light switch made me laugh!

That is a good thing about AirCooled engines, you do not need much to get them started and can be run on a bench, so you can ensure they are running correctly before going through the hassle of reinstalling it.

i looked around for something to switch it with and could find nowt else that was easy....

did ya spot the oil pressure lamp on the wiring loom on the left...

ive ran it up around 5 times ,
burnt in the cam ad followers at 2.5 k revs..

then let it have a fair bit of time getting warm[an hour at a time ] and startin the running in process

Shouldn't even need a run in when you put it back in the bus, sounds like you have done it all

got round to tidyin the side of the bus , last weekend.

flatted the filler around the new cill, and treated the rust,
will be repairin each panel one at a time, next year ,

so primed it and blew it over with a rattle can..

will keep it dry over the winter..

from this ...

to this ....

was surprised it matched , well it would if the rest was polished..
