1986 CADILLAC COUPE DEVILLE 4.1L V8 AUTO

For sale is my Cadillac Coupe Deville.  I brought her last year but shortly after picking her up my other half found out she was pregnant with our first child and, already having two other cars, am having to sell the Coupe in order to get a sensible daily driver – one that both myself and she can drive.

The Caddy's great – It's a true credit to the previous owner who had it for more than a decade and kept up regular services on her and made sure the Caddy wanted for nothing.

She starts first time, every time.  No knocks, rattles or shakes.

She drives well, smooth and straight and she brakes well, too, again smoothly and straight – no lurching off to one side.

She has tax until the end of April and MoT until August.

Good points :

Lights changed to U.K – specification and all lights work,  air-con has had a recent re-gas and worked perfectly the last time we had a warm day(!),  8-way electric front seats work perfectly,  remote operated mirrors both work as they should,  electric windows work albeit the passenger side is a little slow,  self-levelling suspension works and responds well, four very, very good matching tyres – I'm guessing these were new before I got her,  all hub caps present and undamaged.

Brand new battery fitted.

Thanks to the previous owners care and attention it's had recent filters and oil change also the plugs and leads look recent, too.

Chassis is utterly solid; exhaust pipe is pretty good with some looking fairly new.  As mentioned the brakes are all good, stopping the Caddy quickly and in a straight line (I was genuinely shocked at the efficiency on the one occasion I had to perform an emergency stop).

Neither the engine nor the gearbox loses fluids.

Auto box changes super smooth as a Caddy should, Engine is the strongest and smoothest 4.1-litre I've driven.   I would say, without doubt, that the motor has been rebuilt – there are no bills for it (unfortunately) but it's a little too good for its age and even some visible parts of the engine look "fresh".

The car responds well on the road (as well as an older Cadillac can) and being FWD tackled the snow and ice last year superbly!

All glass is in good condition, no cracks or chips to mention.   Rear and side windows have a medium tint on them but I found this doesn't affect visibility when driving – even on the darkest winter nights.  Front screen has a split tint on the upper portion that, if required, looks like it can be peeled off easily if needed.

Interior is generally clean and tidy.  The headlining, not surprisingly, is sagging but, due to the ample headroom, doesn't cause any distraction.  Seats offer typical Caddy comfort and support.  All dash read-outs respond as they should and functions operate correctly.

Economy :

I don't generally let myself get too stressed out about fuel economy – I don't think you can driving a V8 – but I reckon I get around 15-18mpg travelling around town – that's driving sensibly and not gunning it everywhere – it's not that kind of car.
On a run I'd say very high twenties is achievable – maybe even 30mpg if you keep it around 60-65mph.

Points to note :

Although no major body rust to mention – there are a few chips to the paintwork on the leading edge of the bonnet, on the top of one of the fenders and on the lower edge of the boot lid.

The cruise control doesn't work (not investigated it but I suspect the steering column stalk has been changed at some point and may be the cause).

The stereo doesn't appear to work although the electric aerial does respond (could be simple but I haven't investigated any further).

There is a dent on the F/O/S fender and another just behind the passenger door on the same side.

Summary :

I would describe this car is in very good condition for its age.

It's not a "prise-winning" car and neither is it "as good as new" but it is very good for a 25 year old vehicle and is more than presentable as is.

Having done some research on prices and what's currently available on the "market" I reckon I'd be daft to offer it for much less than a grand so will call it £995ovno.

I'm on the lookout for a '03-'07 Diesel, 4 door, so will accept part exchange (cash your way) should the right vehicle come up.

Thanks guys.

I always try to get as much detail down on an advert as possible.

The last thing I want is for someone to read it, become interested, travel X-number of miles to see it and then discover it's actually not at all as described.

I suppose eBay has a lot to answer for - you've gotta assume everyone reading the ad is stupid.

As far as selling is goes I don't actually need to sell it until late March / early April as that's the time I'll need a "family-friendly" replacement.

If the right offer comes along, then fine, it'll go.

Ideally I'd wait until show season starts, stick £1,500 in the window, let someone "haggle" me to £1,250 and then walk away very happy indeed.

I'll give you 2k and no less!!!

Wait what am I doing?! Dam haggling gets me all riled.

Gonna give it a couple of weeks on the forums before showing it to eBay.

I now have a "new" job so there's now no question that it needs to go by the end of next month.

Back on Topic . . . . Just totted up the recent mileage and petrol expenses . . .

Turns out I got around 19mpg - and that's 100% town driving with the maximum journey being 7 miles.

I thought that was bloody impressive myself !

That's including her sitting idling for about 15 minutes while taking pictures last week.  And her tyre pressures are a little low.

I really don't think it'd be hard to get 20mpg regularly.

Still not economical enough for my next job, though.

The 4.1L V8, although being "injected" is actually a glorified carb.  Or throttle body - injection at its crudest.

The Caddy is also bigger and heavier and has 4 times the mileage (or more) than the Mussy.

All that and it's still more economical than modern high-end Lexus's around town !!!

That's why I was impressed !
