I Have the LSD . . . (assuming it would fit).

BTW - Seller is in Milton Keynes . . . . .

Can you post the description?

Not knowing the details, I would expect the answer to be yes to each question.

I found this which shows that there are significant differences between the years:

1982 to 1984: 7.5 inch ring gear, 26 spline axle
1985 to 1989: 7.625 inch ring gear, 26 spline axle
1990 to 1992: 7.625 inch ring gear, 28 spline axle

It's a gamble, but at least you'd have parts to sell.

There might be a few options - transfer the disc's to your current axle.  Transfer the axles (US term) and diff unit to the new housing?

I'd try and do a bit more research into exactly what you have(on the car and LSD), and what year this other one is.

Can't see pics, you'd have to save them and then upload.

I've asked him what year it's off of . . . . . . .

Do you think it is worth the hassle ?

Will it give me that much better braking ?

Additional - just found you won't be able to swap the discs to your current axle.

You may also need to look at changing the MC, as they were slightly bigger for rear disc cars.

Additional - There are 2 different size discs - 10.5 and 12s (from 89 onwards)

Might not be worth it if they are only the 10.5, but the 12's would be a definite improvement.

A lot depends on compatability as to whether it's worth the hassle.

Looks like you've struck out on an exact match.

What LSD do you have - will it go in the '86 axle case?

The axle splines would be the same, and you may find the diff unit can be swapped.

Dunno . . . .

Think I be taking a pass on this one, TBH . . . Money's short and I don't have any real issues with my braking capabilities at the mo' . . .

no. rear discs for thirdgens are crap, not that effective and VERY prone to sticking,  plus you'd need the proportioning valve too, otherwise you will actualy loose braking..

i'd say its not worth the hassle IMHO, the only rear axle thats actualy worth swapping is the borg warner 9 bolt - strong, with an LSD and good rear discs.
