De-construction complete !

Haven't separated the wheels from the axles yet as I need to check I can replace the "one-use" fixings first.

CoughLED'sCough

I have some uber bright ones from off the Mustang but probably a bit to overkill for this.

It's an option but I'm limited with the front lights . . . it's a plastic housing with plastic lens.  The existing hole is 9.5mm and I've found these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120899609150?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 that should fit with a bit of filing.  I figure 5W won't melt anything . . . .

To fit LEDs is an idea but the process of fitting them to the housing would probably be a nightmare.

Does that circuit work ?

the circuit works and will last about 12 hours before needing to replace the batteries.

Chris, have you got the original rubber bung LED's from your lights? those would be ideal.

All parts have arrived so I can start making the loom . . . once I've robbed some cable . . .

The starlocks appear to be a good replacement so I'm going to go ahead with taking the wheels off, too.

Got a guy over on the R'n'S forum hopefully helping with the media blasting.

Started trying to assemble the loom for this on saturday morning . . . got a few bits done until I got to the soldering bit . . . my iron's packed up so the loom ended there.

I did drill the holes for the new lights and loom last night and am attempting to get it into the powder coaters today . . .

I've test rigged the circuit on the previous page and it seems to work.

One thing, though, the lights are quite dim . . . is this a voltage issue or do I need better quality batteries (more mA) ?

Currently using 4 x previously used Duracell's and 4 x New Morrison own brand (but not value).

I don't want to blind people, but I do want them to be fairly bright.  When I connected the battery pack to one bulb (the 5W one) it looked good, but once I connected both 5W ones it was dim.  I didn't get round to connecting the rears but that will obviously effect it more.

Why wet paint when you can powdercoat ?

Picked the body up yesterday and got cracking running wires inside the frame to the rear lights (what a PITA !)

Rear lights fitted, wires, run but not connected at battery end, yet.
Re-fitted the rear axle and cross brace.

Had to mdify the seat molding a little to clear the backs of the lights, too, to get that to fit.

"Reassembled" the dashboard, drilled out and fitted the new light switch.

Wired up and fitted the bulb holders to the front lights.  Reassembled and re-fitted to the front bumper.

The last job last night was to re-fit the grill . . . Then I remembered I had a "Hot Rod" badge I brought off of ebay years ago (not sure what I planned to do with it but - ).

Got the car 95% rebuilt this evening . . .

Then got a load more wiring done (about 6 metres of cable's gone into it so far).  Managed to get it set up for a test . . .

As mentioned, it's a bit dim so I need to work on that . . . .

Tested the light switch, too . . . (it's a video, it's showing as a picture for some reason ???)

HOLY $HIT ! - ONE OF THE DURACELL BATTERIES JUST EXPLODED !!!

EDIT

A SECOND ONE JUST EXPLODED TOO !!

I was just packing up for the night and heard a loudish "pop" - turned around and there was grey/white acid splattered all over the place.  Cleaned it up and put the fizzing battery in the sink.  Took all the batteries out of the battery box and a minute later the second duracell battery went the same way but this time nearly blew the entire (-) end off !!!

Both batteries are dated 2016 (and the circuit was switched off at the time) so am guessing they came in the same batch but I don't remember where they came from exactly . . . .

I thought at first it was just coincidence but with two going . . . . ?

All four of the cheapie ones appear fine and the other two duracells also dated 2016 are fine too.

Any ideas ???

They're still fizzing away.

A little concerning as this could've happened after Jensen got it !!

Thinking about it I took these out of one of my wireless keyboards . . . is it possible that they were specific "original use" jobbies and this use was beyond them ?

The other two haven't popped, yet - I just checked them.

Looks like it's eight NEW batteries to be on the safe side . . . . hopefully that'll sort the dim lights out, too, otherwise i'll be inundated with AA batteries I don't need !!!

Wow that isn't good to have one pop let alone 2 of them...god knows why they done that.... duracell should be good to last till the expiry so i doubt it was beyond them....but

I may still have some of those, and a charger and some mountings for them in my old (and very dead RC car), they're old but should be fine, i'll check with my mum & see if they've been thrown away, if they haven't they're yours for free
