From what I know kinda yes and kinda no.
Johnny Cash is so well respected as he was probably the first Artist to look at the bigger picture.
He wrote songs about Racism, hate and evil long before the likes of Bono and Bruce Springsteen ever did.
He sang about controversial matters at a time when you really could get murdered for doing so.
He supported those who needed it and was a champion to causes which otherwise would've got unnoticed.
And he was normal.
Suffering all life had to throw at him, wandering off course but still returning to his true cause.
I would've given my left arm to have been able to see him perform live . . epecially in his prison appearances in the early 60's.
Many who make snappy decisions and quick (often damning) verdicts often do so in complete ignorance.
Johnny Cash changed the face of popular music today - his reference is in many modern artists work.
I suppose that tells you something . . .
