Firstly.

We all know X-Factor is gonna get number one spot so why is everyone bothering ?

It's all rigged these days.

Secondly.

Oh-my-f*cking-butthole.  Why oh why did it have to be such a sh!tty song.

RATM is/was SOOOOO overated it's shocking.

The song is crap.  Simple.

Does it belong at number one ?

No.

while entitled to your opinion about the song chosen, you're wrong too (), unfortunately... and missing the point somewhat

Firstly, the charts are FAR better now as its based on CD sales AND downloads, this captures more what the entire market is buying.  I've spent £100's downloading tracks from itunes but I havent bought a new CD in years... does that mean my sales dont count towards overall sales?   If people are buying RATM for whatever reason and it outsells everything else then it is the number 1 most popular song purchased... that's what the chart is, not a fluffy popularity concert... i mean ffs... Mr blobby won it once... and bob the builder... and... AND Cliff frikkin Richard!!!

2nd.... RATM-Killing in the name = Great song... it's only been picked by one bloke who started the facebook group, probably thinking nothing would happen... as it stands theyve raised over £35k for shelter the homeless charity and ratm are donating the royalties to a UK youth music charity... so its all for a good cause... AND the point of the song is to overthow the machine/establishment/x factor....

what is it with people today.... I swear... everyone's getting things wrong today.... dont even get me started on what my surveyors have done today at work!!!!

I understand the point entirely.   I'm not retarded.

My initial thoughts still stand though :

It's a crap song, IMO.

It doesn't deserve to be at number one (that said very little does).

It WON'T get to number one.  Who are they kidding ?

It's a waste of time (I care very little about the charities mentioned, personally).

It's waste of money (this one little act will not change the world / children / whales or the evironment)

Clearly I've woken up in a very over-honest mood today but I really can't sugar-coat it anymore.

On a final note.

Who really gives a sh!t anyway ?

I like my type of music - and people will ALWAYS produce the music I like - somewhere - so I'm happy.

I DO NOT have a deep burning need to turn on Radio One and hear "my type of music" being played so what would I give two flying f*cks what's in the charts ?

nothing deserves to be at number one... its just a case of what's sold most copies that week, thats all, if it's the x-factor song or if its ratm or if its an old elvis song used on an advert on tv so be it.  Thats what the chart was designed to do, just show what has sold most that week...

its not going to change the world no... but its nice to know that if enough of you band together for a common cause it might be possible to influence an entire industry.

it took me 2 clicks....

It's waste of money

it was 99p... i loose more than that in to the lining of my jacket most weeks!  It can be had for less than 30p apparently

we wont know that until sunday i guess, i'd like it to get to number one but we'll have to wait and see

at the end of the day, the only winners here are Sony BMG and the 2 charities that have had tens of thousands of pounds donated literally from out of nowhere! Apparently Shelter are up to over £40k now.... http://www.justgiving.com/ratm4xmas

I hope it does win....

(just becuase ive quoted your op several time, im not having a dig, just answering with my thoughts)

I'd stop using itunes if I were you, its only 65p at play.com  and its mp3 so can be played on anything (i assume ipods can play mp3?)

A little thought on the chav girl.  She does have a point.  Who are the real sheep... the people buying x-factory because they like the song or the people buying ratm because some guy on the internet told them to....

no ones telling anyone to do anything... ffs....

people will buy whatever they want, people just seem to want something.. ANYTHING to overthrow the xfactor song... hence the face book group gained popularity.. the only people that joined are the ones who agree.... buying something else instead seems to be the only way... and if people were left to their own will they would buy all sorts of songs which wouldnt help.. focusing on one song is the only way... is that not blatently clear??

The more people winge about it and say they dont care the more I want it to win.... if you dont care, thats fine... just dont care 'quietly'

meanwhile.. i will care 'quietly' over here

the issue is about all the great worthy music now being in the past and potentially an end to free thinking creative artists

That's human nature.  What's surprising about that ?

Everyone does it . . . to claim otherwise is a tad hypocritical.

Yep, she obviously hasn't heard of the talentless genre known as 'Rap'.

Who else are you going to choose?
It has to be something everyone from the 'alternative-scene' knows.
The band has to have a 'core' following already.
They have to have been around a while.
They have to be fairly well known.

I think RATM is a good choice for this experiment.

They aren't exactly my favorite band, but great to listen to the odd track. You put something up like Carpathian -  Nothing To Lose [2007] - You aren't going to get that far, great band but they just aren't THAT universally popular in the 'scene'.

Even if I hated RATM, I would still be buying, support the cause dude.
