General Banter / Anyone know how to soundproof a wall?
« on: May 27, 2010, 03:29:12 pm »
I've just been in to our neighbours house (they're away so I'm looking after the post, cat, fish etc).

As an experiment, I put the music on in my office as loud as I'm ever likely to have it (I sit about 12" away from the speaker!) and did the same downstairs with the surround sound with a dvd on.

Fooking loud in our house I tell ya, but, when i popped next door to see what they would be able to hear it was surprisingly loud, for a brick house.

In their spare room/store, you can CLEARLY hear what I'm playing, sing along and generally not have to have your own radio on at all!!!

Downstairs in the lounge you can hear the bass mostly from the dvd but nothing else, proabbly muffled by the stairs inbetween.

so... I'm thinking of sound proofing my wall in the office, but I'm not prepared to loose more than 1 1/2" of room.  I was thinking, 1 inch batton on the wall, 1 inch think polystyrene insulation and then 1/2 plaster board, a skim of plaster and paint...

unless anyone knows better ??  hence the post...

any tips, experience greatly listened too

yes, i know turning the music down would be cheaper/free/easier... but lets face it....... not gonna happen....

Classifieds & Useful eBay Links / Sony 12" sub in carpeted box
« on: May 10, 2010, 09:38:21 pm »
I've just removed this from my car as I need the space to carry stuff about now, its a 1200W sony xplod sub in a black carpeted box.  I had a 200W kenwood amp powering it and it sounded great.

has a fair few marks on the outer ring where things in the boot have rubbed against it, and a few marks on the sub itself that look to have been touched in with red marker pen, look fine when its in the boot, you only notice these things when you pull it out to take photos!

I'm looking for about £60 delivered by courier but will listen to any offers around that price.

Classifieds & Useful eBay Links / Infinity Reference 6x9s for sale
« on: May 10, 2010, 09:21:55 pm »
I bought these about a year ago for my old camaro, which I sold before I even had time to open the speaker box!!

They are the reference range 3 way 6x9s, they sound awesome!

These speakers are BRAND NEW, the speakers themselves are still sealed in the plastic bags that infinity pack them in.  Everything in the box was completely new and untouched until I opened it for these photos this morning!

When I listened to them on the wall in the car audio shop these were easily the best sounding 6x9's there, i think i paid almost £100 for them and they've then sat in the cupboard for a year.

looking for £50 plus £10 for a UPS courier delivery

still sealed in the bags..

Classifieds & Useful eBay Links / kenwood 4channel amp for sale
« on: April 23, 2010, 02:26:15 pm »
It's a Kenwood KAC-645, all works ok, just tested it again today, it looks like this:

it has light surface marks on the face, but nothing major at all.

works fine in 4 channel mode (4x50Wrms) and can also be bridged to power 2 subs nicely instead

looking for about £50 delivered by courier,

any takers before I ebay it?

just thought it might be cool to see what other people are watching/using youtube for...

just embed whatever you've got as the 3 latest additions to your favourites list, no picking them out, just the top 3 when you click favourites.... so theoretically, the most current things you like, well, latest anyways...

oh, no slagging off other peoples tastes in videos, im sure someones likely to post some 70s glam rock, which we all know is shite, but... each to their own

here are the top 3 on my list as of today..

looking at the box you heat/melt this wax stuff then stick your hand/foot in it, wrap said limb in a plastic bag (60 supplied) then stick it in the oven mit looking thing.

She's used it once for her hands so the wax is already in the machine rather than new in a packet, im sure heating it up for a minute will let you pull out the used wax in one lump.  You can then stick new wax in.

Failing Vicky wanting it anyone can take it away :) I thought it might be good for your wrist Vicky as the wax stuff has magical healing properties!! According to the box it'll fix all joint/muscle/health/climate change/environmental/conflict issues...

women will buy anything!!!

I'm sure we can arrange a chain to get the package up to MK, failing that I can UPS it for £10.

Classifieds & Useful eBay Links / Sony Face Off CD Head Unit
« on: January 05, 2010, 04:59:56 pm »
Found this just now while clearing out the conservatory, it was fitted to the fox body when i bought the car and I've replaced it with something else since.

thank you amazon for the pic :)

the face is scratched slightly in a few places from the previous owner hiding it under the seat/ floor mat/ glove box, you know, where face off head units usually end up..

Would be great in a daily, all works, tunes to UK stations (not American odd numbers only) cd sounds fine.

looking for £15 before ebay gets it....  I can post it Royal Fail or send it UPS for a tenner, price is the same either way but the choice is yours.  Or you could always collect it :)

anybody want this?

it'll take an slr with a fairly big lens, has pockets at the front and sides for stuff and little elastic bits inside for strapping things too.  The foam bits are velcro'd in and can be shifted about as needed...

please let me know by Monday otherwise it goes in the trash....

cheers

Just stumbled accross this in my office on a shelf, was probably used for about a year before I bought the iMac.

It's in good condition, theres a little bit of scratching on the side where it used to get caught on the side of the keybaods draw every time i closed it, cant be seen unless you turn it on its side and look..

Comes with wireless 'photo' keyboard (shortcut keys, zoom slider etc, quite useful actually) and a wireless intellimouse explorer 2.  Comes with a reciever too that plugs in to the USB and ps2 to let them all talk..

looks like this...

i think i paid almost £100 when i bought it... but i know that these things arent worth a great deal second hand... open to offers I guess, I think I'm coming up that way soon after new year so I could always bring it up if someone wants it...

General Banter / Good bye Foxy... you shall be missed.......
« on: December 10, 2009, 11:06:07 pm »
Well... i finally managed to get rid of my fox body this past weekend, I was sad to see it go but it had to be done....

how it was originally... nice wasn't it!!!

then a guy bought it and had a slight crash barrier/lamp post/verge  incident and I bought it for parts..

partially stripped, not much gone but you can see how bent the front end was

motor on the way out

stripped BARE, completely, those door are spares as they were sold, interior out, hatch gone, ALL running gear, looms, everything.... even the side windows.. it really was just bare shell.

Then a guy with a trailer came along, we lifted the car on to it, strapped it down and it was gone...

now... y'all would be forgiven for thinking that this is where the story ends...  however.. the guy that came to collect it bought a buddy with him called Danny, and Danny builds race cars for a living....

It make take a little while to get it back on the road they said but it's gonna be a full tube chassis, blown small block 351W based motor, full fibreglass front end, tubbed rear the lot......

a little self indulgent i know... but i told the wife I would strip the car down and get rid of it within a fortnight.... when i signed the log book over i worked out that I'd had the car sat there for 14 months..... we've got the driveway back and apparently I have an appointment with a ladder and a 2 story high bit of guttering!!!

Classifieds & Useful eBay Links / 50's american classic car display unit
« on: December 10, 2009, 11:42:54 am »
I've had this kicking around the house for a while now and we going to buy some 50's model cars to put on it but never got round to it..

its in sound condition, the shelf edges are a big marked from storing it in the spare room/loft.  Looks like its fairly easy to take apart and sand the edges down/paint if you feel that way inclined...

also a close up of the detail on the top..

one just for scale.. a normal size scalextric car...

i have NO idea what to ask for it... so open to any sensible offers... I can ship it out for a tenner or it looks like i may be coming up to the mkb area sometime early jan so i could always bring it up and drop it off with someone....
