So whats the final cost for this boat anchor?
Not sure . . . . Without working it all out I'd guess about £800 - less labour . . . . maybe a little more.
Certainly under a grand.
But then some of the bits from the motor I've sold back for a few quid so . . .
around £750- £850. (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/up.gif)
The table cost about £220.

This alternator is really pi$$ing me off !
I'm guessing it's not supposed to be taken apart as it's not like other alternators I've stripped.
The pulley's off but I'm struggling to separate the casing from the coil/spindle.
There's a very bizarre bearing arrangement . . . . I'm just gonna remove parts of the casing around the bearing until (hopefully) the case comes free . . . .
hmm sounds like fun - use a REALLLY big hammer, should sort it lol!!!
Quoting: Roadkill
I thought that but the casing is stupidly thin cast ally . . . and I'm amazed I haven't broke it already !!!
Ahh lil problem there then - finess required.....

Rear seal now primered . . . I need to buy another can of paint as I'm on dregs from when I finished the block months back . . . . TBH - the paint's probably gone "funny" with so little in the can, anyway . . . .
I've got tomorrow off so should get a couple of bits done . . . (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/up.gif)

Now I'm not sure.
With the new back doors fitted to the dining room (french doors) - It means I now can physically bring it inside.

Here's the alternator so far . .
So you have completely stripped out all the Alternators internals to save weight ?
Wouldn't have thought it would make that much difference when using an iron block V8 (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/dontknow.gif)
Quoting: F Body

Yes and No.
The Alternator needed to be stripped to be able to clean it and paint it anyway.
The coil inside must've weighed a couple of Kilos, easy, and would be awkward to clean/paint so it made sense leaving it out as it's not really seen from the outside and to refit it would have taken more even time.
Quoting: Roadkill
UPDATE.
Alternator is now completely re-assembled and finished.
All brackets and mounting hardware is painted and finished.
A hole needs to be cleared out but then the Alternator can be totally re-fitted and the main belt tightened.
I hope to have this done tonight.
Kelw sounds lkike almost done then!!

Do the straight 6 table with the moving pistons....
That's an expensive one.
Project #5's a "cheapie" one.
Quoting: Roadkill
The stand I had assembled works O.K but I'm just not happy with it . . . .
Instead I'm gonna get an "Engine stand" made up . . . completely custom of course, fully powder-coated and re-fit the engine to that which, IMO, will look much better.
It'll make it much safer and much more portable in future.
Also it'll free up the wheel on which it sits for my next project.
Hmm this may have to been dropped as I've changed jobs, now. (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/dontknow.gif)
Anyway.
It dawned on me that I'm incredibly close to finishing this so I'm gonna have a go at getting it done over christmas once the bathroom's done.
Just a few bolts to put in and some paint to touch up and I think that's it . . . .
