Project - Garage Floor . . .
« Reply #75 on: November 01, 2006, 06:20:25 pm »
Wow, I guess thats why it looks so good. Problem is our garage is quite old and the floor has some big cracks that need filling first, plus if you spill anything its a real pain to clean up.
Can you buy that flortred at B&Q or do you need to go somewhere special?

Dunno . . . My Dad "aquired it" () from a previous employer.

Check the internet - I'd highly recommend it.

As was mine . . . . Except the "old" bit.  I opted to put in a (very) low-level mezzanine (see earlier pics . . ) . . . . 'cos it was free and I wanted to add DPM and some insulation.

Larger cracks can be filled with a cement mix . . . (PVA the floor first, then after) then add a 1/2" layer of screed.

Screed is self-levelling so your guarenteed a good surface.

PVA again, then paint.

Note : DO NOT use chemical surface hardners before painting . . . the paint won't like it.

You should be able to get the industrial floor paint from a trade counter expect to pay about £40 for a 1k and about £70 for a 2k per 5 liters. 2K will last much longer than 1K all depends on the traffic in the garage

Thank you both loads. The cracks are easily big enough to fill with cement (spent most of the summer mixing bloody cement) Hadn't thought to  cover it all in screed but sounds like a good plan as at the moment moving things like the engine stand around is a real pain and I'm scared it'll tip over.

Thanks for the links as well, will have to go and check it, nice and close to me as well.

You've got the Dulux centre in Bletchley, too . . . . on err . . . Western Road . . ? Or something like that . . . They may do similar.

As for screed try either Wickes or Jewsons.

Thanks. Never used to realise how many useful shops there were in Bletchely but now keep finding them, seem to have everything from sheetmetal suppliers to paint equipment and tool hire. Very handy

When did it change hands? Looks like it must do quite a good trade as there always seem to be lots of cars parked outside.

is it just me with the urge to run around on the nicely painted floor?

Have you knocked the back of your garage down, whats out the back? or is it just a really long garage?

Garage Floor Tuesday Night.

And this morning . . .

The Caddy now has NO BRAKES at all so getting her in was a little scary !

Still plenty of space behind, thanks to the Roller-shutter, too.

As a side project the workshop end of the garage will be seeing some insulation on the ceiling and walls to keep the heat in a bit.

It'll be started soon . . . I'm just waiting for a job to come up at work . . . .
