This can't be right surely...
« on: January 06, 2006, 08:04:58 pm »
I was looking at this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=8026497287&sspagename=ADME%3AL%3ARTQ%3AUK%3A1

on ebay as I think I need a new seal to keep me boot dry, I sent the guy an e-mail asking for a shipping quote & he said

"S&H to the UK would be $33.50"!!!

when its $9.20 in the US thats a shedload more to get is across the pond!

You'd be surprised.

Still thats $23.50 for your seal + $33.50 P&P

= $57 = £34ish.

Not bad.  And you'd avoid Tax and Duty on that.

$33 to ship to the uk is high i would think the actual cost would be $15 so i guess by the time he has packed and filled out all the forms to send it it would be about right

If you're not in a rush, send it to Andy, stick it on the crate.

Ordered a soffseal one so that will turn up at some point, I got the boot carpet dry yesterday (after extensive Fan heater treatment!) so its now got a plastic liner & a towel in the boot, hopefully that SHOULD keep it dry... we shall see!

My boot got so wet, I just took the capret out permanently.  I leave a small square in the lowest point of the boot to soak up the water, and change it over periodically.

Leaks did get a bit better when I sealed my rear window.  At some point I want to replace my trunk seal too, but I need some welding/metal replacement first.

Picked this up from the Post office today (which was cool cos the woman behind the counter was Russian & didn't look like a slapped arse!)

so will put it on the car later,  1 q though, does it matter that at some point round the boot (rear centre currently) there will be a join between the 2 ends of the seal?

Additionally I'm not convinced the problem is this seal anymore but will change it anyway, when I opened the boot this morning Loads of water Poured out from behind the Plastic panel thats on the boot lid, so I reckon there's a seal gone there somewhere where it meets the glass...

Is that similar to that clear bathroom sealant stuff you put round Baths?

(I think there's some of that on there already...)

I would look to see if there are drain holes, these always get blocked with crap and can cause the boot to flood
