General Banter / Ebuyer - shocking service!
« on: September 08, 2014, 06:38:34 pm »
I was recommended to use ebuyer by at least 3 people so I was expecting good things from them. Hopefully I was the exception to the norm as the standard of service since I ordered rrom them is nothing short of shocking.

I ordered the NAS unit on Friday; would I like a saturday delivery at a small increase? yes please I say. It will be with you before 6pm on saturday.

Email confirmation that the payment has been received; another that  the order has been processed and a final one to say it has been dispatched to Parcel Force.

Saturday comes and goes. No delivery. So I check their Track Order facility. Hmmm, it shows Order being Picked.

Sunday comes and goes. No delivery.

The parcel force number shows as not valid on the PF website.

This morning I called Ebuyer and asked them to look into it. Its being dispatched from a secondary warehouse - ie we're having to buy one in - and will be dispatched today/tomorrow they say. Hold on, I paid for saturday delivery; ok she says, we can schedule delivery for satirday of you don't mind waiting!!!

I explain again that it should have been delivered this saturday. But we didn't get hold of one until today. Thats not my problem, you accepted the order and took the money. At the very least I want a refund of the saturday delivery I say. That might be a problem she says as we couldn't have delivered it until we got it in stock. But you stock shows you have over a 100; yes she says but we don't physically hold them. I asked her is she understood what 'stock' meant.

Ok, I want delivery in the morning, I have meetings all day and can't stay in. It will come via DPD she says and gives me a consignnent number, its been dispatched already.

4 hours later I've had a reply back from DPD to say no it hasn't, they haven't even had an order to collect it.

I call Ebuyer back; why did you lie to me? It hasn't been dispatched at all. He put the phone down.

I call back and get assured that she will call me back straight away to let me know whats going on. Their website still says it being picked.

2 Hours later I call them; whats going on? am I getting it delivered tomorrow morning?. Don't know, we'll call you straight back. I'll jold I say, no need I'll call you within 5 minutes.

A hour later I get another dispatch note confirming it has been picked up by DPD. I call them, they say the consignment number won't show until morning but he can call the driver. 3 minutes later he confirms the driver has collected from them but definitely nothing for my postcode.

So I call back again - their phones must only take incoming calls - and say I want to cancel the order. Its been dispatched they say. Bollocks I reply, no it hasn't and I'm fed up chasing it.

Then they told me how I might have to wait for upto a fortnight for the money back as they have to wait for the unit to come back to them and be checked over.  But its not left you I say so how can it be damaged?? we don't know until we've checked it - and by the way, we won't refund delivery charges because we have to pay to get it back!!!!!

I then went onto amazon - £21 cheaper and free delivery to the office tomorrow.

I shall **** them from a very great height if they don't refund that money within the next 4 days.

Questions and Queries / anyone know about NAS drives?
« on: September 04, 2014, 05:02:20 pm »
As we're on the move I've had to reduce my DVD/Bluray collection but I've still got over 200 so I've decided to put all the dvd's onto a NAS drive in a format that a DLNA bluray player can recognise.

I've looked on Ebuyer but still none the wiser - does the NAS drive slot into a spare bay in the pc or do I need an external housing for it? I'm thinking a 2gb drive to give me plenty of room for expansion.

So who can tell me what sort of drive would be best?
what else do I need to consider - the pc is a recent i7 pc with Win8 and 12 GB of ram.  Its only got basic geoforce 640 gt graphics but does that come into play if I'm running the films through the TV?

As I'm exceedingly lucky and have just been given a brand new karcher K4 jet wash last week gratis, I am selling my trusty Clarke 5000 jet wash.

Its works fine, it has a bit of electrical tape around the lance to hold the case together - put there 3 years ago and its still holding - and provides a good jet of water, I've used it for cleaning brickwork and the garden patio. It also has a detergent dispenser for cars, brickwork etc. Variable speed jet.

General Banter / Steve Shane
« on: October 03, 2013, 05:57:14 pm »
Its with a heavy heart that I have to tell you that I was given the sad news that Steve Shane passed away today.

For those that knew him he was friend, confidant, support and generally a real nice guy. For those that didn't, you missed out on knowing one of life's most genuinely decent and funny people.

A founder member of AACI, and a stalwart of the Billing car shows until he dropped out of the scene.

He was one of a kind and will be sorely missed in my house and an eternal regret to me for not seeing him more in the last 5 years.

The details are personal to his family, but he did pass away peacefully.

RIP mate, you will be missed greatly.

General Banter / Cheap car required

Ok, step daughter needs another car on the grounds that the worthless piece of rotten skin she is married to (soon to be unmarried to) to has buggered off with theirs.

Budget around £1000 but prefer to get change. Doesn't need to be big; Polo, Focus, Astra size etc. What are the recommendations?

General Banter / Officially getting old...
« on: April 22, 2013, 07:49:28 pm »
... as I've just become a Volvo owner!

I needed a replacement car as the old merc is starting to play up at nearly 100,000 miles old. I didn't want to spend a lot so looked at used Insignia/Mondeo's as a decent company car. I was looking at spending around £12-15k, for that I wanted a 12 month old car with the right spec. Audi's and BMW - good cars whatever the drivers are like - would have to be a bit older.

After being let down by the local Vauxhall garage and a salesman who clearly doesn't know the difference between SOLD and FOR SALE (or black and red cars for that matter) I headed over to Kingston to look at Fords. Salesmen even worse.

Then I headed for Honda as I like the CR-V's for space but not much in the price range we wanted without high mileage.

As we walked past the Volvo garage I spotted a used S60 R-design on the forecourt at £17k so thought I'd have a look while there. Nice car, sporty design (sporty, volvo? who would have thought?) but a bit shy on the luxuries I wanted.

Salesman come out to speak to us and says he has some great deals inside. Right I thought, of course you do. But then he tells me that he can get me into a brand new S60 SE Lux for 30% off list.

List price on the car, a 2013 model with  delivery miles only, with 95% of the options I wanted already fitted, the colour I prefer and leather/alloys etc, is £31k - a couple of hours and a test drive later and it's mine at .......

£21k

Apparently as a group the company bought 100 brand new assorted cars from Volvo, already built and specced cancelled orders; no choice in what they got but humungous discount to take them which they are passing on to get their registrations up.

Its only got the D3 engine, 2 litre, 134 bhp but £30 a year road tax and 60mpg!

Classifieds & Useful eBay Links / MacAllister 2000w flip over saw
« on: February 06, 2013, 11:28:31 am »
I have a cheap but effective flip over saw if anyone is looking for one. It can be changed from a crosscut saw to a panel saw with a quick release toggle plus a bit of fiddling about.

This is not a new item, it is used but in good working order. I've used this to cut down 2" oak plank and it sailed through it.

I have a homemade stand for it for portability, which I'll throw in.

Questions and Queries / Anyone got access to a milling machine?
« on: December 16, 2012, 12:42:52 pm »
I've just bought a new morticer chisel and found that the fence is not quite square. At first i thought it had just been badly sprayed so I flatted it off with fine grad epaper but I think its just machined badly.

Its 6mm iron angle i.e. L shaped, I need it squaring off at 90 degrees.

Plus the bed they sent is made of mdf and I'd prefer iron or steel so if anyone has access to a bit of 18mm - 20mm plate about 400 x 120 I'd be interested.

I'll willingly pay for parts and labour because this will take up someones time
