who services yanks in the MK area?
« on: May 28, 2007, 06:32:55 pm »
Hi All

Been browsing here for a while now, and this is my first post.
I need to find someone to service my F150, any details of who does this in the MK area?

Any replies will be appreciated.

Thanks

Tony C

Hmm, you might want to do a bit more groundwork on whether to use WIM, heard some not-so-good things about them

many thanks for the tip, I dont particularly want to become a statistic of dodgy workmanship.

Anyone else any comments on WIM, or Paragon come to that.
Or if not any pointers as to who you have used thats done a good job.

Thanks

I went to Paragon 3 years ago with a list of jobs

Remove and fit new shocks - old shocks were ground off - I could see the grinder marks in the chassis!

Remove and fit new leaf springs - Axle is 1/2inch out of square!

Diagnose and solve rear brake problems to allow to pass MOT - didn't touch brakes at all - simply wrote out an MOT.

I'm not going back, and don't recommend him either.

How far away would you be willing to go?

I suppose any reasonable distance would be acceptable for a decent job to be done. If you have any recomendations, that would be great.

The reason I posted this question on here initially was to hear what you guys have experienced in levels of service, and jump in on the back of your experiences.

There are too many cowboys that think just cos you drive a big thirsty motor that you have a bottomless wallet, in my case its not true.

I can recommend both Adrenaline Race and Performance (http://www.adrenaline-race.com/presentation.html) and Webster Race Engineering (http://www.webster-race-engineering.co.uk/)
Both of them are in Rushden. I've had stuff done at both and would definitely go back.

Edit: it also depends what you mean by 'service' - there's a lot you can do yourself.

+1 for Websters.

They did a decent job on my axle rebuild.

Serviced my T/A in December.  His parts were a bit expensive cos he uses J.Woolfe but otherwise had no bother....

Not sure Websters would want to get involved in servicing but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

The Ford dealer in MK at Kingston is "supposed" to be able to service any type of Ford but whether they can or not is up for debate, main dealer pricing but at least they shouldn't hurt anything, again may be worth a call

All the parts you'll need would be available from US Automotive in Bedford depending on what type of service you need

for servicing, a normal competent (thats the hard part) garage should be able to do everything..

William Rutter Motor services in bedford are excelent, and are about 100 yards from John Woolfe Racing, so you have the advantage of having an excelent parts source right next door.. TBH they are all i realy use now, and have never put a foot wrong. One of the guys there owns a late 80's caddy, and the guy that owns the place has had quite a lot of expirence with limo's so knows late model fords well.

reasonable labour prices too..

The main ford dealer in Bedford (when it was in its old ownership) were happy to help with US ford, the only stipulation is that you provided parts. as they are now part of priory group, i dont know if this is still true, but they used to carry microfishe for the explorer, long before they were imported officialy..

i've heard quite a few horror stories about WIM (including one completely botched job i've seen first hand) and they aren't cheap, avoid like the plague.

If you need the servicing stamp go to a main Ford dealer.

That's your safest bet.

Personally I'd do the work myself and save a fortune . . . but I'm a tight B@stard when it comes to servicing.

any comments on WIM

I used them for my transmission rebuild. They are nice guys, but I was shocked and somewhat angry to find that rather than fit a new gasket to the pan like any sensible person would, they had cheaped out and used what I can only describe as white bathroom sealant... I was not happy at that, especially as after the rebuild I had alot of overheating problems and had to blow out all the cooler lines. The overheating could easily have been caused by a detached bit of sealent geting stick in the line...

thats horiffic, the should have installed a new trans filter after a rebuild, and these ALWAYS come with new gaskets, so my guess is they didn't

wonder what else they skimped on?

Either that of they over tightened it and split it... There was a gasket in there, but it had been patched up with sealant...

Touch wood, it's been going strong for quite a while now, but I do wonder...

You expect a good job when you're spending that much money...

Thanks for the comments guys, looks like I will be doing it myself then.

I own these 3 and do most of the work on them myself so a simple little V8 wont pose no problem then

you should be fine, V8 yanks dont really have much to do on a service anyway, just oil / filter, spark plugs, check coolant, (change as nesicary) same for trans and brakes

thats pretty much it. check the diff oil once a year too..

i can do my mustang in a morning easily, including having the wheels off to check brakes.

If you've got the time and half a brain cell it's always the best option, IMO.

Obviously "the time" . . . You haven't got that excuse, though, so -
