It really all depends who you listen to. If you talk to your importer, they will give you copies of relevant documentation that says you can. If you talk to VOSA or DVLA, they will supply you with copies of documentation that says you cant. Go figure.

Having said that, the law DOES say that you can lgally drive an unregistered vehicle to an MOT test, OR a location where repairs for MOT are to be carried out.

Ive driven countless vehicles back from the docks and only ever had an issue once (and that was because he wasnt happy with the carlos fandango wheels sticking miles out the side of the truck )

Oh PS...if it needs a VOSA inspection prior to registering, be careful.
The law says you can also DRIVE it to a VOSA testing station for inspection, and yet VOSA in Birmingham will refuse to test it and turn it away if it doesnt arrive on a trailer.

When I took the Beatch for VOSA inspection they told me that they had changed that rule and couldn't stop people driving them

Doesn't the MoT station in question need to be the "closest station to the car" or something ?

You're all worrying far too much. When I imported my truck, I insured it with Adrian Flux on the VIN for the first 30 days of the insurance policy. I went to Southampton docks to pick it up, and got in it with only the plastic Ohio State temporary rear license plate on it, and drove up the M3 at great speed all the way home to South London.
